Vinyl roof

I live in Macomb county Michigan,I just had my 69 Satellite painted original Alpine white and it is a hardtop,I am considering having a vinyl roof installed.The car has never had one and the roof is perfect and there is no glass in the car.Every place I have called basically hangs up on me because my car never had a vinyl roof,as far as I can see there are only the 2 moldings it would need installed.Can someone tell me why they treat me like Chris Kringle in Sombertown?

The roof rail moldings are different between vinyl & non vinyl.

I added a vinyl top to mine. The body shop drilled the 6 holes and I installed the top myself. Nerve wracking, but not that difficult! Set the rear window trim in place and the piece for back corner of the 1/4 window glass to get the position of the vinyl top trim. Then figure out where the holes should be. I'd think a professional body shop would be all over that! Maybe try an upholstery shop?

Personally, I’d leave it as is. If you’re making it into an A12 clone, the more stripped looking it is, the better.

I always pay more for a car WITHOUT a vinyl top.

As RC stated, leave it as the car is originally without it. Aesthetics are OK, but in this case, not a very smart move. It is your ride, though, so do as you please...cr8crshr/Bill

The more I look at it the more I like it,the black vinyl roof would really pop though as for it being a clone it was a high option A/C Florida car and I took all the trim off before the guy prepped it obviously.I bought the hood for $200 cause they drilled the hood pin holes in the wrong spots.Im not a big clone guy it will resemble a Road runner but I’ll always call it a Satellite anyway a very reputable trim shop gave me the response after they said no that “It’s more work than you think”.Again the car has no glass front or rear and zero trim installed , how hard can it be?

Your car looks awesome without the vinyl top! It's only 6 holes to drill and paint up and your car is ready for it. If you want the shop to install the top, glass and trim... then that is a big job. Or, forget about it and move forward. I don't have the fender tag for my '70 GTX so I'm doing what I want with it!

I had a glass shop replace the vinyl roof on my 68 dart. All glass was in it. It took a few hours as I recall. This was in 1983 or 84. They said it would be no problem. They supplied the non factory material. Still looks good. Kim
