Carlisle Area Restaurants

Carlisle is coming up next week so I thought it could be informative to share some places to enjoy a really good meal.
I'll start with my two favorites in the area...

There's a whole bunch of restaurants in Mechanicsburg, which is just a 20 minute drive down the Carlisle Pike.

I usually stay in Mechanicsburg. Basil Leaf Thai Cuisine - Mechanicsburg, PA is a decent joint.

The Hamilton restaurant (across the street from the Carlisle theater) has some of the best hot dogs and chili dogs around, and great diner food as well.

Many years ago when Carlisle still had a bank of pay phones next to the grandstand I heard a guy on the phone saying he and his friends were going to DENNY'S!? Wait, What, My wife and I would hit a different REALLY GOOD PLACE every night! For four or five nights!

I agree. N Hanover Grill is delicious. Some of my friends who are too accustomed to fast food (Yuck) and habit feeding don't have the taste buds to appreciate great food.
The other haunt for great meatloaf and ribs is Redd's Smoke House just on the block prior on the same street.

I have friends in Harrisburg so I stay at the Econo Lodge on Eisenhower Blvd in Swatara right off I-283. There is Lancaster Brewing, Capital diner, Gilligan's and Leed's Ltd. I have eaten at all four and the food is very good.

When I drove in from Chicago in the 90s, I used to stay at the Red Roof in that area, and eat at Leed's. They've been there forever, and were always good. Also in that area, Gabriellas Ristorante is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. I'll be eating there on Thursday night.

For those of us that are traveling with a dog, BringFido is a useful website that can show dog friendly Hotels, Restaurants, Parks, Campgrounds, Coffee/ Ice Cream shops, Distilleries, etc.

Another place with good food is Marcello's pizza and restaurant !

We usually stay in Shippinsburg, and eat breakfast at the Wheelhouse. Great little diner and food is good and reasonably priced.
