Can Not Figure Out Why No Spark at Plugs

Mystery solved... I don't have an ignition problem, I have a diagnostic problem. Fran and Photon440 - your posts pointed me in the right direction. If I know my cap and rotor are good and there is no ground there - the only route to ground has to be through the plugs. I scored one of these...

    Timing light recommendations?

I tested the following - all use an inductive pickup - the ignition uses an MSD 6A module; Sears 45118 - circa early 80's Innova 3551 - circa 2009 Innova 5568A - circa 2015 - dialback timing light All three provided the same result for timing set at zero degrees BTDC. I installed timing tape...

Can Not Figure Out Why No Spark at Plugs

Bob you are correct - I do love to tinker with the car - that is the point of having it - along with driving it, which it gets lots of. Electrically, the car is the same now as it was last summer - nothing new other than I installed a BlueStreak cap and rotor before putting it away for winter...

Can Not Figure Out Why No Spark at Plugs

This spring it has been nearly impossible to get the car to fire up. I have never had ignition problems before so this is a new experience. I have an MSD 6A ignition module and am using an MSD blaster coil. When I put my timing light on any of my plug wires and crank the engine see no spark...

    Timing light recommendations?

Turns out the "old school" one I have placed my hands on is not likely old school enough... its an Innova 3551 DIS inductive timing light purchased in 2009. It has the same notes as my current one, saying its for "conventional, electronic, computer controlled and DIS ignition systems. The...

    Timing light recommendations?

Interesting discussion - I have wondered about this as well. I read the manual on the MSD6A ignition module I use, and they state not to use a dial back timing timing light - I had never noticed this until recently. I use an Innova 5568 and it appears to work correctly, however without...

    Rear main seal question

Check your oil pressure sender for a leak. I was convinced I had a rear main seal leak on my 340, but not the case. The sender was leaking oil and it was running down and dripping off the bell housing at the inspection plate. Replaced the sender and the drips are gone.

Rear Main Seal Replacement and Oil Pumps

Decided to button up the pan with the new seals. Got that done and ran into a YouTube video suggesting one should check the oil pressure sender for leaks that could disguise as a rear main. Once the car was off the jack stands, I checked the oil pressure sender, and yep it was loaded with oil...

Removing a 340 Oil Pan - how the heck do you get it off?

When you lifted the motor, how did you do that? did you lift from below, and if so, where is a good place to lift? I am nervous about lifting under the bell housing, but that appears to be the most accessible...

Rear Main Seal Replacement and Oil Pumps

Well spring is here and I am knee deep into the rear main oil seal job. Having a horrible time getting the oil pan off (see other thread), but that aside, I am wondering if the seal is the culprit or not. When I get drips under the car, it is dripping at the inspection plate on the front of...

Removing a 340 Oil Pan - how the heck do you get it off?

I decided I would like to remove the oil pan on my '73 340 car. I planned on replacing the oil pump and pickup tube along with new rear main oil seal. The shop manual makes it sound so easy to get the pan off. However that is not my experience. I have the pan loose, and free moving, but I...

'73 Road Runner Outer Wheel Bearing Specs

This spring when I get the car out of storage I plan to replace the front disk brake rotors, and while I am at it, I might as well do wheel bearings too. Do any of you know which bearing set to use for the outer bearings? All online lists I check show the same bearings for the inners (ie...

    Holley Retro-Bright LEDs

I like these ones - they retain more of the old school appearance... would love to see a picture of them installed in the '84.

    Holley Retro-Bright LEDs

I really like the idea of having the 5700K "modern white". All my daily drivers have LEDS in that colour range, and the halogen sealed beams look so yellow and dull to my old eyes by comparison. Its good to know that they fit in the b body buckets without modification. I have already done the...

    Holley Retro-Bright LEDs

Any issues with wiring the 4 headlamps to all operate simultaneously on low beam? Oncoming cars flash you, or the cars you are following bothered by the additional lighting? I figured oncoming cars would flash you just because they could see 4 point sources of light, assuming your highs are...
