OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

Dennis;damn near was! Success! I also discovered something else that may help others. It went back together, put the header back in place, hooked up the exhaust, went to fire it up and... Nothing. No start. Hmmm...dropped the pan again to check levers and ****. I'm looking up and see that the...

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

Resq302;this year trans had the washer(a thick one) under the shaft lever;it's even mentioned in the manual. The "o-ring" I added was just placed over the shaft, then the washer and lever over that. I added it to just retain and keep some pressure on the seal.

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

...I'm back... After finding a metric to standard conversion chart(my 1/4' drive torque wrench is calibrated in Kg-cm) I'm ready to tighten the valve body. It went back in relatively easy, but pushed the seal out. I slid it back down the shaft(ooh baby, ooh baby...)and back into place. Yes,I did...

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

Alright then...the valve body is out;not the PITA I had expected. Here's the old seal and a new one;yeah;it's a leaker for sure. Now to the install and reassembly. I've saved all sorts of rubber seals that have come my way;I've looked at a couple as potential substitutes that may seal better...

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

Thanks,Gary. That black pad is thicker than a gasket though;that why I wondered. Going back at it this morning.

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

OK,the valve body is ready to come out. Hanging up on something;perhaps the shaft not wanting to come out of the seal. Didn't want to force it;I'll deal with it tomorrow. As far as that;the little black seal pictured looks like the correct piece for this application. I'll let you know how the...

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

Thanks,Gary. Wasn't aware of another seal-an outer one, from what you describe. There's nothing in the manual about replacing this(WTF?),so I'm asking the crew here: Anyone have a diagram/picture/breakdown to show me(and anyone else) what being dealt with here? Oh,Gary, the seal is about 1/2" wide.

OH @#$%!!! Trans Leak At Throttle Shaft Seal! @#$%! @#$%!! @#$%!!!

Hello again. Damn, has it been a year? Well, the car has pretty much sat since then;other stuff took precedence. Back to the issue at hand. The seal that needs replacing is a small rubber seal(that's what I got at my local auto part store;these guys are a local outfit and are knowledgeable and...

    Newb question re: kickdown linkage

Excuse my butting in(maybe it will help someone else),but...my stuff is mounted solid(rod from trans mounted solid to bracket from carb linkage);should I fix that and go back to having movement(pin moving back and forth in the slotted part of the rod) in the linkage? The trans rod is slotted,but...

    Newb question re: kickdown linkage

Don't know if this will offer any help, but here's what I did on the '64. Not sure what year this stuff is,but ya work with what you've got-including what's lying around the nut/bolts/random stuff stash.

WTB Neutral safety switch for 1964 big block torqueflite,pn 2496133

Steve;I'm interested! Thanks;I'm planning on putting out a post about a new trans/shifter problem that recently cropped up and replacing this may or may not help/solve the problem. I won't get into it here as it's a bit complicated-which means "weird...". What are you asking on this?

WTB Neutral safety switch for 1964 big block torqueflite,pn 2496133

Looking for a Park/Neutral safety switch for a 1964 big-block 727,floor-shift model. These are not available from normal auto parts stores;Standard Industries does not either produce or carry this. The numbers on the (Mopar)switch are "2496133" with a "264" stamped vertically on one of the hex...

Comment by 'Al K' in item '1964 Plymouth Sport Fury'

OK;the wheels: From Rally America(TOP NOTCH folks) in 15X5" up front and 15X8 out back. However...their standard 15X8 has a 4-1/4" offset, and it had my 255/70-15 tires rubbing on the inside of the wheelhouse. I called them, ordered another set with a 5" offset and it was perfect. The old wheels...

Barn Find of the day and probably of the year!

Shorty;we may know each other, depending on how long, and where you served your sentence at Buick. I was there from 1977 until 2000;when they shut down Engineering,I transferred, along with a lot of other people,to Saginaw Mental Casting. Breaks my effing heart to go by there(or AC,or Chevy...) and...

NFL Is Here!!! Let The Smack Commence!

I watched that. Good God,man;Philly looked like they could do whatever they wanted out there. Mr. Kelly brought some inspiration to that team with his new offensive scheme. Defensive coordinators throughout the league started a regimen of heavy drinking, especially those in the NFC East.
