I once had a 70 GTO in the 70s that I ran the tin can end-type Thrush glass packs on. To me that car sounded like what 60s muscle should sound like. It was deep and rumbley but not harsh or raspy sounding. It sounded just as good coasting down the hills as it did rumbling up them. Part of it...
No doubt. I’m sure by then they were tired of dodging the hundreds of Hawker Hurricanes and P47 Thunderbolts prowling the country side looking for armor, trains, transports, etc to knock out with rockets and cannon fire. Not to mention our own armor.
I owned several newer Mustangs in the last 15 years. I had a 12 model that had Pypes muffler eliminator tail pipes installed by the original owner. It basically just ran the cats as mufflers. Apparently Pypes did some tuning with them but I’m not sure how. They were fairly loud but fairly...
That’s an interesting comment. But at least on the flywheel, that I’ve made 3-4 (can’t remember for sure) complete cycles and the results have repeated themselves typically within .0005”. Even after stoning the surfaces and remounting and torquing the FW, I reset the dial indicator on the same...
No love from the Satellite today. Runout actual went up to .006” which is double the FSM limit. Looks like it has about .050” left for surfacing before it reaches the factory indicators. Have to see if they can surface it within that size cut. Should be able to - just more $.
Also just...
I stripped paint/sanded/stoned every contact surface. - transmission face, bell housing register, bell housing transmission and block surfaces, and the engine block/transmission surface. Someone ions ago painted this block with something that defies lacquer thinner and acetone and had to be...
Thanks, my welding skills are not too great. It’s an option but if it comes to that I would probably prefer to drill and tap. First I’m going to give cleaning the mating surfaces and stoning/filing them and run another set of checks.
The lye proportion I’ve been using is 12 teaspoons per gallon of water. A little variance either direction is probably not critical. It will leave a black coat in on the aluminum when done, but it will wipe off. Lye has worked better than Easy Off HD oven cleaner and Greased Lightning that I...
Quote - “If I tighten the adjustment nut on the linkage the pedal springs back up nicely but then when you push the clutch all the way down I hear the grinding.”
This is sort of puzzling. Are you speaking of the nut on the clutch fork rod for adjusting free play? I doubt the grinding is the...
I buy lye crystals at the hardware store. Typically the part has to be immersed completely in the pan but it removes the anodizing pretty quickly - usually 15 minutes or so. A heat & air guy who I restore trim for on cars he restores made a big sheet metal pan for me that I use. For side trim...
I hated the effort of mounting wider tires than stock with 15” wheels and 11” drums. Even 235/70-15s were a struggle with entire rear jacked up and hanging free. Having later, wider 68 up axle units under both of them was probably most of the issue. What were the odds both of my cars had...
Only for 67 and later and then I would have to find a 67 starter.
That’s kind of what I suspected on the machinist stone. I’ll make do with a fine, flat file
