I have no record of either VIN in my 1970 Lynch Road library. The VIN on the engine/transmission should match your dash tag and fender tag. There are several documented errors of the body stamps being off by 1 digit. This would be another.

The complete VIN may yield results. The databases several members have compiled over the years are based upon a minimum of the last 6 of the VIN.

2737 = January 24, 1969. 4 - 6 weeks prior to actual build date is common. To answer your question, yes, this a period correct master cylinder for your A12 but a little early. Based upon this assembly date, I believe the casting date is 11/6/68.

I pulled a few VR from my stash and found yellow as early as 188, the 18th week of 1968. Each plant had different supplier/supply chains so to put a tight range as mentioned above is not accurate. I do agree though, by April of 1969 all plants were yellow for this model year. The GG quote...
Yellow. John Deere yellow is a good match. The "red" on the earlier units is actually hemi orange that looks red applied to the black on the VR. I respectfully disagree with the range given for red versus yellow transition.

Yes, you were very clear on the block cast date. The EAD is on the stamp pad on the right side of the block in front of cylinder #2.
This is the first time I am seeing this VIN.
