I used a stock pistol grip shifter off a 833 and it worked perfect. I love it - the shifting range seemed like 6" compared to over a foot for the 833. Have pictures on a conversion I authored - look at page 2.
5.7 Hemi Engine swap on 70 RR (Project)
When I was a young puppy I worked in an engine rebuilding shop for VW. You could always tell an engine that was serviced with QS or Penns oil - they were always gummed up and dirty (didn't matter if car was services regularly). Had to put the parts in a bat for a day and then steamed cleaned...
I pulled this original rear out of my 69 Super Bee. Upgraded the car from a 383 / 4 speed to a 496 stoker/550 HP 6 pack motor, and thought I needed a dana 60 for the rear. I was told it had 3.23 gear (not verified, but can if wanted). Can also look at gear case number, but believe it's a 489...
Think I would just need hood and black wheels. Originally a 383 4 speed SB. Now has 496 stroker 6 pak. Doing a dana 60 rear, upgrading brakes from drums to power disk and installing a Borgeson ps.
Got some plates/insurance for the Dart yesterday and am going to start driving it once in a while. Will try to get a video of it in operation. This should be a fun ride - can't wait.
Thanks for all your help. Think I'll do the front disk and drum in the rear. This car is pushing close to 600 HP with equal toque (496 stroker with six pac) and I was thinking about putting a dana 60 in the rear (will do rear disk then). After brakes it needs power steering. Right now this...
Thinking about replace the rear drums with some disk brakes. The rear is 83/4 and was told I had to put a green bearing kit in the rear or the rear disk set-up won't work. Any member know the answer? Present setup is drums on the front and back..
Talked to the man who put the 440 in the car and he told me the 383 he took out was not number matching. Don't know why the original motor was taken out, maybe someone blew it up.
Believe it was pulled in North Carolina and a 440 was installed. Vin is WM23H9G285920. Would be cool to put them back together some day. It may be in Cal. or Mass. Who knows..
