Well, after putting the car on a lift, at 76 years old I'm not crawling under anymore..... anyway, there are 2 vent lines in the tank One vent line goes out in the rear wheeel well and the other one just goes up and over a cross brace and vents under the car into the air... Evidently, the short...

I'm not that familiar with auto trans but check at the top where the trans fits to the engine. On '68s thats were it was stamped (usually)
