One year in to my career as a mechanical engineer and driving and making payments on my first new car--a 1961 Plymouth Valiant V200 2-door hardtop. Bright Red, bench seat as no buckets until '62, floor stick and the big 225 CID engine and the toilet seat on the trunk. I considered adding the hyper-pak 4bbl carb kit but opted out because of cost. I got a speeding ticket in Nebraska on I-80 as I was headed to California for a vacation. I was seeing how fast it would go before I ran out of Interstate and went thru radar stationed on a bridge over the highway at 90+. Talked the cop out of it.

I was 2 yrs old in LA County and figured out how to climb out of my crib, walk out of the house, leave the neighborhood, walk across a 2 way, 4 lane road into my grandmother’s neighborhood and house. My grandmother called my mom and asked if she knew I was there. They both freaked out knowing what it took to get there.

I was 4 years old the forth of 5 children at that time but went to seven children by 6 years later. My dad being self employed farmer just bought a used 4dr full size 60 Plymouth ex cop car 318 dual exhaust three on tree for my mom to drive. With 5 kids didn’t take her long to talk my dad into moving up to a town and country Plymouth wagon. I drove the heck out if that 60 Plymouth in our farm fields after putting in another engine from a 61 Plymouth that I held to the boards and punched it into drive. I guess I just wanted to see what would happen. Lol The whole car shook and shuddered and that was my first and last auto trans I ever destroyed. I drove that 60 from 14 to 16 years old doing everything you could do in farm fields. I even took the doors and hood and trunk lid off to lighten it to get all 4 wheels off the ground like the Duke Boys jumps albeit not nearly as high though. It is funny how when all four wheels are off the ground you have no tire noise just engine. Enough said glad me and my buddies became better drivers and lived through our stunts.

12 years old, attending South Junior High in St. Cloud Mn. Dad was driving a pretty cool 56 Plymouth Belvedere two tone Turquoise and Midnight blue.

Beautiful! I have always liked the 1962 Chryslers. A friend of mine has a '62 300 Sport (non-letter) in white. It has dual air conditioning.
My dad’s boss that year drove the same car in red. His secretary drove a black 1960 New Yorker. It was destiny that I drove a black Chrysler 300F 25 years later. The instrument panel those cars share has never been surpassed.

In 1st grade living in Vista Ca. Got one too many pink slips from the bus driver for defending little girls from bullies at the bus stop.

In 1962, I was in 10th grade and into the second year of going steady with my girlfriend from 8th grade, who is now my wife of 58 years. In '69, together we special-ordered our '69 Charger. She picked the F3 Light Green Metallic color and I picked the 383 HP and 4-speed. After 56 years, we still have it. I guess I tend to appreciate beauty and I keep my "stuff" for a long time.

I keep my "stuff" for a long time....

Evidently ,,,, so does she.

God bless yous (Chicagoese for southern "Bless your souls")

Chi Town Runner: Yes, I suppose you are right. I'm lucky that way.
Here in my part of the south, we say "Bless your little heart!" but the thought is the same...

I was a freshman in high school. Hiding under my desk during the Atomic Bomb drills, even then we knew that desk wasn’t going to save us. But it gave me a wonderful view of the cute young ladies backside for a few minutes.

Living the innocence of a 5 year old in Grafton WV. Walking to neighbors houses for fresh cookies. Otherwise I don't remember much. But my dad was personal friends with the owner of the chrysler dealer in town and in 64 he bought a new newport wagon. I would sit it that car for hours and play with the controls
