My 1967 GTX project (with pics)

I got the 3.55 geared, limited slip in finally. Quite an upgrade from the highway gears it had previously! Installing some interior pieces, and upgrading the exhaust, are next.

My 1967 GTX project (with pics)

I haven't posted for awhile, so here's some updated pics with my new wheels and bumpers installed. I haven't had time to do anything over the winter, but I have a limited slip and interior pieces to install, when I get some time. On a different note, a buddy is buying a 1969 GTX, that has a 440...

My 1967 GTX project (with pics)

I had a friend talk me into taking my car to the big (600 cars) yearly show and enter it in the "under construction" class. I didn't win, but was motivated to get more stuff done on it!

My 1967 GTX project (with pics)

Over the last few days, I've been masking, painting and polishing trim. After 55 years, she's picked up a few scratches and scars. Thankfully, the body was pretty decent, and didn't take too much to get it back in shape. I kept a momento from the previous body and paint work... No wonder the...

My 1967 GTX project (with pics)

I hadn't posted any pics of my car, and decided now was the time. I bought the car thru a friend in Missouri, in 1983. I traded the car to my friend's brother, straight up, for his 1965 Impala SS convertible. I missed the GTX so bad, that I threw some cash together, and bought it back! I got...

Stick with what I got, or try and find a "742"

I drove 2 hours to see it, and seemed to be what he claimed. Can someone on the site with a lot more knowledge than I, give me a breakdown on the casting numbers? Oh yeah, I did go ahead and buy it.

Stick with what I got, or try and find a "742"

Ironically, I just found a newly listed 489 that has new 3.55 Yukon gears and sure grip. He said he built it for a car he just sold, and never got it installed. he wants $500.

Stick with what I got, or try and find a "742"

I believe it has to do with engine size (and maybe how heavy the car is). Mine has a 440, and that's why I'm pretty sure it received the heavier duty 742.

Stick with what I got, or try and find a "742"

Unfortunately, Spokane is 8-9 hours away. I didn't expect to have this much trouble finding a 742, and when I have, they've been back east and most won't ship.

Stick with what I got, or try and find a "742"

I have a "489" case with an open 2.70 ratio installed in my 1967 GTX. The original setup was likely a "742" with 3.23 gears and a sure grip. Should I just install the 3.23s and sure grip in my existing case, or should I continue to look for a "correct' case to keep the car more original? It's...

    My 1967 Plymouth GTX

Nice car. I've been to Switzerland a couple of times and have never seen an American muscle car, so I'm sure it attracts a lot of attention with the locals. Can you get license plates that can fit the bumper, or do you have to use a special mounting bracket?

New guy here. This forum has come up several times in my google searches, so figured I should join.

The original photo I posted was taken a little over 15 years ago. I bought the car from a friend in Missouri. It now resides in Idaho. The 2 stage clear started peeling really bad, so it's currently being prepared for a repaint. The cutouts in the hood were done by the previous owner "to allow...

I've owned my 1967 GTX for 40 years. I am finally in a position to clean it up and get it running.
