What happens if you add some octane booster? If you dont put a lot of miles on....maybe that could be your simple solution.
If it doesnt help....then the hot spot or too hot spark plugs theories may be correct. A too lean fuel-air mixture will deonate easily also.
Is the heat crossover in your...
Whatever pistons you use....weigh them on a gram scale and compare to your originals. If they vary more than 20 grams,a rebalance will be needed i.m.o. .
If heavier.....you can take that amount off of the small ends of your rods to compensate. A machine shop can do that for you instead of a more...
If you use Silvolites....get the ones for the early 440 which give aprox 9.4:1 with the early 80 cc heads, 8.8:1 with the later 86-88 cc heads, using steel shim [.020] gasket.
No valve reliefs but no problem w/.480 or less lift cams. Many people over cam their street driver cars, and nobody street...
Silvolite pistons are very simular to the originals and not overpriced. Just dont get the ones for the late low compression engines or you will end up with a turd.
I use grease on both sides of a plain cork gasket. Then they can be re sealed several times without tearing. Careful not to over tighten though as they will split.
I fail to see any advantage with the extremely overpriced cometics other than more thickness choices. The Felpros are far more forgiving regarding how smooth the sufaces are. I think the Felpros tend to seal up the coolant passages better also. Wonder if you can get the blue composit Felpros for...
Cant fit at least an Edy performer? Me thinks that iron is gonna be a choke. How abot the Weiand 2-plane or possibly Holley street dominator?
Maybe the stock air-cleaner housing could be modified as in like a drop base?
High vol pump has a stiffer spring which can and does wear out the little pushrod that works the pump. A hardened fuel pump pushrod may be your solution.
Ive been there. Dont want to go back. Good luck.
Yes it will fit, however it is most likely balanced for pistons which weigh different than your stock 440 pistons. If you will be using pistons much different than the stockers you will need to rebalance anyway. If you know what the 413 pistons weighed and your new pistons are heavier, you can...
Yes mixture screws. Dont know about the ratio.
Stroker kit is best to make those giant intake ports work below like 3500 rpm.
Especially if your not runing 4.1-4.3 rear gears.
