The cam lobe is what I used when setting mine. Pretty easy to rig up a dial indicator and get a good reading. Not 100% parallel to the cam, but certainly close enough.
I just showed this to the Motion guy I've worked with for years... he's the kind of guy that can pull solutions from thin air and has saved my butt many times. He looked into it and said you're likely SOL. He's gonna keep digging but doesn't have much hope.
Maybe the video doesn't convey the sound properly. It's the exact sound as when hitting full-lock, I guess I could've done that for comparison. It's 100% belt squeal. I've used a high speed camera (again, access to lots of cool tools due to my job). The pulley stopped momentarily when that...
Yep, went through that. Pump was supplied by Peter and had one thin shim. I've actually had two pumps with this setup, both from Peter and both with one shim. First pump started groaning after a week, so Peter drop shipped me a new one. That one came with a broken cap/dipstick, with the...
No, the creaking is my seat against the center console. For some reason the phone amplified that, you hardly notice it in the car.
The noise I'm talking about is the chirping/squeal that intermittently happens while turning. I've had someone turn it while I'm under the hood... It's the belt...
For your viewing pleasure... in landscape mode @Kern Dog
At first I backed the car down the driveway without noise. As you can see/hear, the noise started when I started to turn and pull forward. In all of the videos, the car is moving, even if slowly. The belt is TIGHT too, trust me.
The noise is belt squeal, zero doubt about it. Not the box or pump. The "hissing" is the box, but that's the least of my worries at the moment.
As far as the tire iron trick, I'm well versed lol. I've been in industrial maintenance most of my career, much of it involving mechanical...
I think most every old Mopar I've had will squeal if I go full-lock and hold it there with pressure. I was taught when I first started driving to never hold the steering at full-lock, although I think that probably applies even more to rack-and-pinion.
I can take a high-speed video and with...
It absolutely does, because I guarantee you can fix anything on it quickly. My son has an '89 RX7 with an LS1 and, although it's modern/computer controlled, same deal... anything breaks, we'll have it back going cheap and easy.
"Modern" to me really starts when you're talking communication...
I do, but for a purpose. The wife has a modern vehicle since she, rightfully so, wants it to be an appliance. I drive an Acura with almost 300k for commuting, but again it's an appliance and if/when it breaks, I'm not fixing it.
Beyond that, nothing but simple vehicles for me. I tried to go...
Well, that's discouraging. I took mine to the grocery store last night and it was raising holy hell when backing into a parking spot. I'm used to the car drawing attention... but not because it's screeching. I was thinking about a new belt just to try, but your experience doesn't give me much...
I could be mistaken, but I don't think Bergman modifies the pump. When he sent a replacement for mine, it was shipped straight from the supplier and didn't go through him.
They can bleed normally but still have issues with locking up. The hose can break down internally and only allow flow one direction, essentially letting you brake but never allowing them to release. I've also seen this happen when a brake pedal doesn't return fully, as it holds the master...
I must be as well, because mine has a pretty significant amount of noise. It's less annoying than the hard spot and accompanying belt squeal that has developed when reversing steering direction at low speeds (scares the hell out of people in parking lots). And yes, the belt is very tight...
