Generic question: Looking to understand why 'hotter' camshaft requires more ignition advance.

R/T boy has covered it well. The mixture is less dense as cam overlap increases. More distance between the molecules; flame front takes more time to spread; hence more timing [ advance ] needed to get the most productive burn. With really big cams, up to 50* at idle may be needed...

Dual Carter AFB Bog and Stall Issue on WOT Acceleration - 413 Max Wedge

3 psi fuel pressure is really not enough. Yes, the fuel bowls will fill with fuel, idle will be ok. In low gear, that fuel gets used up quicker than 2nd gear because max rpm is reached more quickly. The fuel level is dropping & may not getting replenished quick enough. A symptom would be putting...

To Bob Renton, Thanks for the Max Wedge link, very interesting.

You could also put a piece of thin wire in the secondary high speed [ main circuit ] air bleed to make it smaller. This will bring in the secondary fuel earlier. Very easy to do as a quick test, just secure the wire so that it cannot fall out.

Dual Carter AFB Bog and Stall Issue on WOT Acceleration - 413 Max Wedge

I agree with post #17. Without v/valves in the secondaries too much air. On the carbs that had VVs, Carter incorporated an ingenious starter cct. When the secs went to WOT, the upper edge of the VV was adjacent to a small orifice in the booster that supplied 'start up' fuel for secondaries. Your...

What was factory carb on 1978 Monaco 360 4bbl, please?

Lemon, I agree! But finding a TQ in good condition & getting it running can be daunting for those not aquainted with the TQ. So next best is the Edel carb which comes with comprehensive tuning instructions....

Dual Carter AFB Bog and Stall Issue on WOT Acceleration - 413 Max Wedge

The AFB carbs do not have an air valve in the secs like the AVS, but they DO have velocity valves between the boosters & the t/blades. There were a number of different VVs used, that varied in the attached counterweights & 'angle of attack'. The VV control the sec system. Jon Hardgrove, of the...

Are you ready for a real weird one? Random NO spark from a MP electronic ignition system despite numerous parts swapped around...

Semiconductors in the ECU can suffer from something called thermal runaway; basically, they overheat & their electrical characteristics change. They can return to 'normal' when they cool down. If an ign coil is used with a low pri resistance, say 0.5ohms, then the power transistor in the ECU...

Have not read all the replies. Has the vac adv been hooked up? Every time the VA deploys, it flexes the p/up wires. Eventually the wires break.....& no spark. I would try a new p/up or different dist.

#9104 TQ is the correct carb. If unavailable, an Edel 650 AVS2 would be the best choice.

Also, you will need a LOT of timing at idle, with either cam; if you keep the current cam, you may need as much as 35* at idle. Yes 35* !!!! Maybe more. Easiest way to do this is using vac adv connected to manifold vacuum. Choose, say 15* initial & add 20* with vac adv. See below
