My comment is NOT incorrect. Name a soft solder that has anywhere near the strength of a brazed joint. Idiotic statement. The only 'solder' that has any real strength is 'silver' solder, which is totally different to 'soft' solder. They require different fluxes due to their composition. Soft...
Absolute BS.
An alum rad is brazed construction. Also, the alum radiators have wider tubes, 1" or wider, that copper cannot. This results in a larger fin area. It is the fins that dissipate the heat. Also, the way the fins are louvered is better in the alum rad, making heat transfer to the air...
This could be so many things....from wiped cam lobe to simple adjustment.
See if the dist is loose. If not loose, it would indicate timing has not moved. If a points dist, check points gap.
If elec ign AND vac adv is hooked up, high mileage can break the p/up wires because they flex with VA...
They are so fickle these cars. My GTO had the usual induction system: high rise intake & 4bbl carb. 9.8:1 CR. I had to use 98 octane [ similar to your 95 ] to stop det. Had cold air induction, cool running engine. Could get det on very hot days.
Switched to a completely different induction...
What model Phoenix? I always wondered where mine went.
There are odd looking marks on the gaskets emanating from coolant holes. Crack in the deck?
If you need heads or a block, have a mate in Syd would likely have both. PM me if needed.
There are better cams than the stock 340 cam because the factory had to compromise.
My advice: it is real easy to put in a cam that is too big. It is much harder to pick the 'right' cam that gives you the extra performance but not at the expense of drivability.
You have already picked, nice...
You could hear det with your engine using a particular fuel. So you know & can hear it [ hearing still good ]? If do not hear det now with a cheaper fuel, go for it.....
I have seen tests where higher octane fuel made less HP than a lower octane fuel, so no point spending extra $$ if it does...
Also, some clutch brands have a heavy duty & a severe duty clutch. The HD clutch has more internal slippage, so that the fan spins at a slower speed. If you are chasing an overheat problem, use the SD clutch.
When you have the filter laying horizontally, you are going to create an air lock [ no fuel ] in the top half. And you are not using all the filter area. It will work OK, & I doubt it is causing your problem. Looks like an Edel carb, & last number of part # is a 6.
So what carb?
What other...
