Back when I was dead broke in the late 70's I did this same repair. A 64 Fairlane wagon with a straight six and a cracked block running up the side to the deck. Wire wheeled off the paint and glopped it up with JB. It held fine and didn't leak for three years till I sold the car.

I retired at 59-1/2 which was 10 years ago. I made similar calculations on my pension which I could take then, but it was cut by 18% because I took it six years before their "retirement age" of 65. I also had a part time side gig that I worked for the next 8 years or so that paid all my bills...
