I always fret more about the aluminum intake holes pulling, not the strength of a grade 8 bolt.

If your rear tires don't hookup, but just spin, a 23 spline will be fine behind a 440.

18 spline A833's were also standard in all 440 cars.

I'm not a plumber either, but can't you access the mixer by taking the front cover off?
