512 stroker piston to wall clearance opinions

Thanks for the feedback guys, it has been really helpful for me. I am not a seasoned engine builder so I am just trying to be cautious and do things right. My dial bore gauge has increments in .0005'' but I believe the resolution is really .001''. I will check things over with a ring in the...

512 stroker piston to wall clearance opinions

Yes I measured the piston where the instructions from 440 source stated. On the Icon pistons there is a round spot with no black coating on it where you are supposed to measure.

512 stroker piston to wall clearance opinions

No the machine shop did not number any of the pistons. They are all within .0003 of each other

512 stroker piston to wall clearance opinions

I mic'd all the pistons and dial bore gauged all holes. I am looking at clearance with my smallest piston in the tightest hole

512 stroker piston to wall clearance opinions

I think it is pretty accurate, but that is a good point. I mic'd off of a piston and zeroed the gauge to that and also measured the cylinder with the bore gauge and checked that with a micrometer as well. I also put a mark on the cylinder walls at the same depth on each side using a caliper to...

512 stroker piston to wall clearance opinions

Hey guys, just looking for some feedback on an engine block I recently got back from the machine shop. I have been checking it over with a dial bore gauge and have noticed that it is looking like the piston to wall clearance is too tight. It is tight on the thrust faces of the walls though, I...

    Power booster question

Hi all, I have a question about the bendix power brake boosters.. I have a bendix power brake booster that I bought from Dr Diff and I measured the stroke that the pushrod coming out of the booster travels and it is right around 1.185'', (I measured this with the booster on the car and also just...

    Replace Upper Control Arms?

I said aftermarket UCA would be the way to go, especially with an alignment setup for radial tires. I boxed my factory LCAs and used QA1 uppers. I think the stronger UCA really helps to stabilize the whole setup.

    Replace Upper Control Arms?

I would go with the QA1 upper control arms. They allow you to run more castor which helps make the car more stable at highway speeds. Looks like your originals are all pitted from rust as well. Do you want all of your hard work riding on a sub par control arm? I say this because I think that...

    Stroker engine build ideas

Yes! This is describing exactly what I am looking for. That MPG is amazing, a car that is setup like this is something I want to drive every chance I can get. What was the idle quality like with the MP 484?

Thanks! I have been thinking/dreaming about the build for years. Sounds like your car is a perfect candidate for a similar setup with the 9 1/4 rear. This post is definitely helping me gather my thoughts so I know more of what I want when I call Howards.

    Stroker engine build ideas

Thanks purple beeper, yes that cam seems very comparable to what I am thinking. Maybe even a little better with the tighter LSA. From what I have researched the standard performer manifold should work with the ramcharger box. Good point about the carb throat diameter though. I may wait awhile to...

    Stroker engine build ideas

Thank you, I will research the 128 rule. I did some quick research and it sounds like the performer rpm manifold with an adapter for the TQ would fit under the hood but need a drop base air cleaner (could be a real tight fit). I have a N-96 hood and hopefully could get a ramcharger air box back...

    Stroker engine build ideas

Sounds awesome! Do you regret the 2.76 rear gear sometimes? I would think the torque curve being lower on the 512 vs your 445 would make it a little easier for me starting out. I agree though, If I want to go faster at the strip I'll just swap in a 3.23 center section.
