In the old days when doing a brake job, they would arc the shoes to match the drum.
It made a huge difference then just replacing brake shoes.

Brought my alternator and regulator to a small rebuilding shop and he tested it. Was less then 30 amps. He took it apart and put a larger rotor in and tested it again. Now has closer to 60 amps and it works perfect. No more dim headlights at idle. Charged me less then a...
I would hold off on LEDs until you fix the cause.
I had dim brake lights on my '70 plymouth.
Turned out to be a weak connection in the turn signal switch. I then cleaned all connections and grounds.
Works perfect now.
It's been awhile since I installed a shift kit, but I believe the solid plug is for the governor passageway to eliminate all auto operations as in a TF-3 kit or B&M manual-pack kit.
Horse hair was used.
I used some white breather material from local parts store to replace it.
Then I used a very thin layer of silicone along the outer edge of bottom plate before I crimped it back together.
Works great and doesn't leak a drop.
I think these are disposable parts as I remember...
