Looking at these passages on each head where the pan mates up. Sounds to me like perhaps I can install as is and move on. I’m in eastern Wa and will be a fair weather driver in this car
Did some googling and it sounds like it may be in my best interest to use some high temp rtv on crossover passages on the heads prior to pan install. This sound like a good plan of action?
I’m running the stock exhaust manifolds but plan on safety wiring the choke/ buttery open. That said; sounds like I don’t necessarily to worry about opening the passages on the valley pan?
I’m in the process of putting the top end back together on my 440hp with 906 heads and my new valley pan (felpro kit 1215, pan #90299) is much “flatter” than the pan (#9546) I removed. It looks like it will “collapse” into place with the intake when torqued down but this doesn’t pass the sniff...
Thanks for all the input(s) gents. After doing some online educating, watching some vids, and reading y’all’s advice; there’s no reason not to tackle this myself. Merry Christmas all!
Thanks for this. I’ve done some reading/educating myself a bit and this is exactly what I’m going to do. Intimidating when doing this for the fist time and on a build I spent far too much on (not sorry) but it really is way doable. Thanks again
Reading up on that exact concept led me to this post. I’m unfortunately a bit ignorant to valvetrain variables if you will. Can I tell by visual/physical insp if mine are hyd or mech or is this a question for my eng builder? Build sheet ppwk is giving me that info. Thanks
You’ve stated exactly what’s going through my mind. I’m thinking my best bet may be to touch bases with my engine builder. There’s some variables here that aren’t giving me the warm fuzzy on doing this for the first time
