I have a '72 charger and I just had the 727 on it rebuilt and replaced the speedometer cable, but my speedo keeps jumping around when I'm driving. Is it my gauge or what? I'm at a loss here

You try greasing the cable with some white lithium grease when you slid the cable into the housing? I'd try that first if you didn't. Also check for binding or a kinked housing...

Good luck!

It came greased when I bought it so I didn't think about it, the speedo jumped before I had the tranny rebuilt or replaced the cable

Take the speedo apart and clean it. It gauges speed with a magnet. If there is dirt and what not in the way it screws with the reading. May just be plum wore out, how many miles on it?

Has 64k on it, I'll plan on taking the whole cluster off and cleaning it sometime this week

Don't use white lithium grease...it can actually make it worse. use light wheel bearing grease, first pull out the inner cable to see if theres any kinks..if either squared end is slightly bent it can cause a speedo bounce. if the speedo bounces from maybe 10 M.P.H. to 30-35 it's usually a bad cable, if it bounces all the time no matter what speed it more than likely needs a speedo service.

Try Redline gauge works (661)259-8891 ask for Shannon,(I used to work there) they do work for Chip Foose, Jay Leno, Steve Strope of Pure Vsion, and many others.

Any other gauge questions send me a message, I can repair most of the smaller gauges at home fuel, temp, oil press. clocks, circuit boards, voltage limters etc.

Redline can handle speedo repairs tach conversions full restos.

Had the same problem...I ran through a bunch of things ...Found out the speedometer housing was all wallered out...You may want to take a close look at the housing too when you got it apart..
