Have you ever installed this type of clip? There are four of them and they are for an interior windshield header trim on my 64, probably others too.

Is there a trick or special way to install them? I know, I know, they look like they'd just push into the hole with the two tabs. They don't. I tried collapsing the tabs and then using needle nose pliers to spread them from the back once in place. Didn't work.

I spent about 45 minutes on one and gave up. I figured there has to be a certain way to get them on. Please let me know if you're familiar with them, and thanks.

They look pretty sturdy...they must go in fairly quickly...the assembly line would have dictated that. Maybe a special pair of pliers?

^^ You could be right. As it is now, once the clip is in place there is no room for any standard pliers behind it.

Oh and these would probably have been easier to install with the windshield out... live and learn.

I have done them with pliers. Yes, they are about the dumbest design in the World... but you pinch the tabs together and the counter tabs spread apart on the other side holding it in place.

Make sure the tabs on the side that go into the hole are open wide enough so they just fit into the hole to start, and at the same time make sure the tabs on the pliers side have plenty of room to squeeze together once in the hole, and they will work.

Those bent needle nose pliers look like they would be the trick with windshield in.

Good luck...

Thanks 68, appreciate the help. I sorta tried one like that but wasn't sure if I should continue. I'll give it another shot. Thanks again for the help.

I know they come out semi easy (windshield out), I dont look forward to getting them back in.

5.7 just put them in before he windshield if possible. It's got to be easy that way since you'd have a straight shot at pressing them in place. Hemidog thanks for the link. I'll let you guys know how it goes after I try it again. Thanks all.

I'll do that, and good luck getting yours in.

I got them all in pretty easily with a nice new set of angled needle nose pliers. Definitely the right tool for the job. Thanks for the the advice and links.

hello. i used a dremmel tool with flexible shaft. i then drilled two tiny holes on each side of clip and installed using two small screws. it worked on my 1964 polara. very sturdy. i hope this helps. craig 383

That would be great way to get them in place especially if the holes are damaged or too large.

If all else fails DRILLS,BFH's & SCREWS!!!LOL!!Glad you got it done, can't to do my 64 with windshield in!&*&^%&!!!!

If you use a sturdy set of curved needle nose pliers, it's actually not too bad. With the windshield in those are your magic bullet.
Good luck!!

Hey Jeff did you ever take pictures of these clips after you had them installed?
