Contact the Chrysler museum. They can give you all the info on your car.

Vin says; R( Belvedere, Satellite) M (medium price) 2 (2 door) 3(hardtop) H(383 4 bbl) 9(1969) E( built in Los Angeles) last 6 digits are the build sequence.

Not for anything later than 1967 models, they have no info on the newer cars.

Yeah I had been told the same thing. Sometimes you can get lucky though from what I hear?
