Hey guys I have 71 satellite .. im looking to buy new gas tank ... what fuel line sizes do I need and anything else I should replace while I am at it ?

If you have a 440 or a 426 hemi, you'll want a 3/8" fuel line. If you have a 383 or anything smaller, a 5/16" line will be fine.

There is a fuel filler neck grommett where the filler neck goes into the tank, the sending unit, the sending unit seal, and the sending unit ground strap all need a good inspection while you have the tank out. Also may want to consider a new fuel tank pad that sits between the top of the tank and the bottom of the trunk floor.

Yes its 383 motor .. ok so 5/16" is good and I believe inlet is 1/4" .. yes im also ordering sending unit and the pad with new tank straps .. I will also look for the sending unit ground straps and seal.. thanks for the help

Those are good guidelines for stock engines, it's what the factory used. But if you have a 383 that is now putting out 500 hp. then I'd upgrade to the hemi sized lines.

Well its original 318 car .. the guy I bought it from put 67' 383 block in with 516 head closed chamber .. I have no what else he has done and whats the hp out of it .. but I do plan on brining the hp up .. so then I might as well get 3/8" lines

Don't buy from Mopar Ed in the Central Valley. Keep all of your old parts until the new one is in and the car is running.

If you go to 3/8" line better replace fuel lines also as the 440 and Hemi tanks use a return line and fuel vaper separator at fuel pump. I am running a newer type filter with return line and works well.

Gas tank pad?i dont have any pads between body or straps when i change orginal tank to new.

Every car I worked on had a pad between the tank and body.

you should always use a pad on the tank
it takes away any vibrations or movement of the tank
which in turn prevents gas leaks from happening.

if your getting a gas tank the best to get is a
spectra premium tank made in canada.
jeff at 521 restorations carries them.
for the sender, go to dixie restorations
he carries the only ones that are known to work.
most for sale are cheap taiwan/china no work garbage..

As mentioned, the pad (some people use pieces of heavy roofing paper) goes on top of the tank, between the tank and trunk floor. Nothing goes between the underside of the tank and the straps.

Any recommendations where to order fuel lines? ... also dixie is selling everything together tank n sending unit ..should I just order from there or just buy the tank from 521

dixie is the only supplier/source of that particular sender
so you have to get that there.
then you can shop for price for the tank or i'm sure dixie
is in the ballpark for it and it would probably be easier in one place

i know jeff at 521 sells those tanks on ebay
for the tank pad, jim at dmt has the best ones.
for lines fine lines is the place
from what i have seen, some of the fuel return lines were short
and some other issues with them
then you have the stainless vs steel argument to think about also..

You mentioned straps. Was wondering if they included j-bolts. I broke one of mine while removing.

I too never heard of a gas tank pad. On searching for one to see what it is, the description at Performance Car Graphics:

"Pads are made of roofing felt tar paper, which is moisture-repellent, unlike foam pads. Appearance, size and cutouts are the same as the original pads. Some of these pads are just a simple rectangle or square, as original."

Rockauto has your fuel tank for $157.79. It's a Spectra, part number CR-10A. A quick check at 521 shows that he's out of stock right now. I don't know in this case, but when I recently purchased a fuel tank for my 67 R/T, Rockauto was cheapest of anyone, by far. And, it's the Canadian-made Spectra unit just like the major restoration parts sources sell. As a bonus, it's easy to find a 5% Rockauto discount code online, which about covers the shipping cost.

I just replaced the fuel lines on my 72SSP. I ordered my lines from The Right Stuff Detailing. Another source is In-line Tube. The Right Stuff Detailing had a special before the holidays, it was 10% off with free shipping. Make sure you check the shipping cost for the fuel lines, it is expensive because the box is large.
