That's crazy talk. I guess it depends what kind of shows you're talking about because at any legit judged Mopar points show, that would be a no-no. If other than that, do what you want, not what your painter wants.

No. I have a friend who owns a shop and they but billboards under clear. Looked silly. Not sure how it held up.

I have some friends who build "High End" cars, and they paint the stripes, THEN clear over them. The outcome is the Best I've seen...I don't think putting the clear over a vinyl product is a good idea. It will eventually chip, or flake off the stripe, and you'll end up replacing the stripe, or worse, if it peels the clear off the color. My R/T just has the vinyl over the color, and it's held up very well...

No decals if you want to clear over, paint the stripes then clear.

yeah that's what I thought but I thought I'd be sure before telling him to put them on last . paint is taking for ages as he lets each successive coat of primmer "gas off" between coats/sanding . don't get me wrong his paint is flawless ( looks like you could dive into it ) but man its taking for ever .we are only just starting to talk about him spraying a couple of different FC7 colours for me to pick from and he was asking about whether to clear over the decals

Are they making a matte clear coat now? ;)

That's how my Hood and tail panel are done, can wax or polish and always stays the same semi flat.
Definitely nothing over the side stripes.
