There is a history of it.
Generally speaking, that is.
Tara, Tara, Tara.
Keeping perspective.
Thankful that no one was hurt.
The fire fighters pulled back just "minutes" before the collapse.

Mother always talked about the Wincoff Hotel fire.

WSB open mike:
"Who idea was it to store flammables under an interstate?

Saw that on the news but didn't catch the particulars. So, there were flammables stored under the dang thing?!!

Plastics, apparently.
It was an obvious chem fire.
Orange flames and black smoke.
They brought foam trucks up from the airport because what they had wasn't working, I guess.
But the collapse "snuffed" most of the fire out.
It pancaked.
Traffic is going to be horrible for months, at least, I would say.
I just heard Labor Day?
The original contractors are on the way to ATL to see about rebuilding the section that collapsed.

Radio just said that engineers think both directions will have to be rebuilt.
North and south. That compounds things exponentially.

Scrath that.
Not even an ETA on an ETA on the rebuild.

Geez....hope this opens up the eyes to the rest of the states as to what's going on with stuff like this. Houston has an elevated section of freeway though town that the homeless has taken over. There's no telling what's been moved under that one. Closer to me is another elevated section in Pasadena that the city uses for parking. One car catching on fire could escalate into something similar or at least do serious damage. When they were building it, an exit ramp that went over an entrance ramp at the end of the elevated part collapsed well before the dang thing was opened! Every time I drive through that area, it makes me wonder about the integrity of the whole elevated part but it's been standing now since 1970....

Have 5 cousins living in the area; I'm sure the traffic will really be bad after the closure. It was awful before. It was worse 2yrs. ago than L.A. that i remember.Course, nobody knows how to drive anymore.

Georgia’s deputy insurance commissioner Jay Florence confirmed the suspects were arrested on Friday. He identified them as Basil Eleby, Sophia Bruner and Barry Thomas. Eleby faces a charge of criminal damage to property, while Bruner and Thomas each was charged with criminal trespass. All three were being held at the Fulton County jail.

The 3 people that's in custody are homeless people that lives under bridges.

So, burn down your home. That's really cool. They should hang the fuckers

Was it cold that day? Usually homeless people are looking for ways to either stay warm or turn something into money. Maybe they were trying to do both lol. Not sure if there might be an easy market in all that plastic pipe but I do know it's not all that cheap to buy it new. It probably would have been cheaper to house them than let them live under bridges and over passes and take the risk of something like this happening but imo, it was pretty freakin stoooopid to store all that stuff under an elevated section of freeway.

It's been common practice for many DOTs to store various material and equipment under bridges, overpasses, etc. The Washington State DOT has set up construction sites under bridges and elevated roadways for decades. I've even seen fuel trucks and trailers stored in these sites. Add all that poorly secured material and equipment with some homeless trespassers and you have the potential for a disaster like the one in Atlanta. I saw on the local news last night that the WSDOT is looking into their construction storage practices. We'll see if they learn the lesson. This disaster isn't just inconvenient for the people of Atlanta, it's going to hurt the local economy too.

Plastic pipe will not combust on its own it takes some high temps to get it to melt and burn. Usually under bridge storage is regulated by combustablity rates.
There should be a fire marshall sitting on a hot seat some where.

Under bridge storage is (was)a way to save money.
Hang these arsonists bums from the next overpass.
These fuckers cost you guys lots and lots of $

Biggest expense of under bridge storage is the constant battle of fighting bird droppings.

That's crazy, sorry to hear that, what a mess...
I hope for your sake the traffic isn't too bad,
I know it'll still suck...

Good luck
