Hello, I am in need of some assistance in trying to figure out which screws to use for my hood, front fender (C) and lower grill trim on my 70 road runner. I Purchased the car without the trim and have since acquired it. Unfortunately I cannot find any info on the size of the screws used to mount it. Any information would help to point me in the right direction. Thanks, Ernie

Hey Ernie, R/T specialties sells a grill screw/clip kit (might be the whole grill, not just the lower half, but the price isn't bad). I believe they carry the screws that hold the trim at the leading edge of the hood too.

Thanks, I will take a look. I don’t need anything for the grill just all the trim around it. Hopefully they have it.

Well, I unfortunately didn’t find what I needed on R/T specialties. I am sure that they have the screws I need there and sell them singularly. I just don’t know which ones I need. I need the ones for the outer trim for the Road Runner. I don’t need anything for the grill as it is mounted and I know why I will have to remove it to insert the screws for the trim. Attached is a picture of the front right C trim that needs screws, I have it just sitting in place. I also need screws for the trim that carries underneath the grill and additionally the trim that mounts to the hood. If anybody has a project in work and could send me the dimensions that would be awesome. Thanks, Ernie

I am not sure what size they are, that is what I am looking for. I don’t need original as I actually want new screws. I know they sell them on restoration websites but they didn’t clarify what screw specifically fits the trim.

They're something like a #8 screw 1/2" long, phillips head that sort of looks like a non-spinning washer (head of screw maybe 1/4" across). Look carefully at your "c" trim pieces since some of those "screw slots" can widen out requiring a washer or something.

View attachment 819294 Thanks, are like the ones in the photo or a normal non self tapping screw?
The screws in the pic are self-drilling screws, not just self tapping. When I put the C molding on my 70 Satty, the holes in the molding were wider than original and the holes the screws went into were larger that the stock screw too. I had to improvise. They're not that visible so I was just concerned with securing the C trim in place ( it's a hard piece to find and not cheap, especially the repop ones).

Yea, the new trim I purchased seems like it needs a washer. I actually just found a website that has the trim screws for the “C” molding along with the lower molding under the grill. I just couldn’t buy it because the website wouldn’t let me because I live in Alaska so I will call them tomorrow and hopefully it’ll work. Do you have a picture you could send me of yours? I’m curious of the screws you used. Thanks, Ernie

I'm out of town so can't get pics now. When I get back I'll take some for you.

The text information is from the restoration manual and the screw pictured is from amkproducts.
Maybe next time I’ll figure out how to rotate an image.

I can't say 100% that I am right but I thought that the Fender "C"s were mounted with a rivet that has a large head. I remember seeing quite a few over the years like this... Maybe someone else will chime in...

All 4 of my 70 RR/Sats had screws iirc.

I am going to say they were messed with and not original. I have seen too many with Rivets...
