What a A-hole he is!

Well, I am not necessarily a WHO fan per se, I do like some of their work but as it relates to his comments, sometimes you just have to say what you have to say. Yes, I know people don't like to speak "ill of the dead", but I personally don't necessarily subscribe to that in all circumstances, saying that crap to a reporter probably wasn't the smartest thing but it is what it is.

You guys living under a rock ??? Its a well-known fact that he and Entwhistle NEVER got along - to the point of fistfights and namecalling on stage.

Not living under a rock at all, don't give a crap about how they got a long at all, the subject of the thread was (as I understood it) more about Pete talking crap about his dead band mates; many bands don't get a long especially over the period of time the WHO have been around; think how many marriages don't survive even a fraction of that time.

There's a lot of politics in bands, there's always someone thinking that they do more in the band,or take the band or the music more seriously than others. That said Keith Moon was a raving maniac on the drums, and when he was on his game, there was no one bettter.

He’s entitled to his opinion. Although extremely harsh, I much prefer his honesty over the much more common entertainment business drivel where everyone loves everyone.
I agree.
Many people are looking at their future when they are asked about others in the industry. They resist spilling the truth for fear that it will cost them future success.
I like the show "The Walking Dead". It is in my top 5 shows of all time. The show runs on Sunday nights and afterwards, there is a show called the Talking Dead where they discuss the show, have interviews and previews of upcoming shows. They often feature actors that are killed off of the show and they are always positive about it and the show. I never get to see anyone bitch about how they felt betrayed, how they were blindsided, how other cast members were ******** or anything.
Until the sexual harrassment cases started to pile up after the Bill Cosby conviction, many cases of bad behavior were kept silent in Hollywood because too many people figured that speaking out against those in power put them at the risk of being labeled as difficult to work with or uncooperative.
I'd still like to see more sparks fly. Lets hear the truth.

If you hate someone in "life", its pretty difficult to have a positive opinion of them when they're dead.

Yes, he wrote most of their tunes. Yes, he's an amazingly talented human being.
Yes...he has an ego the size of Manhattan, too, not to mention some serious skeletons
in his personal closet.
Moon and Entwistle were both also incredibly talented and pioneers of their instruments.
To boot, Entwistle had his hands in all sorts of the business and was the only one of the
bunch to have had classical music training.

The Who would not have been the Who without either of them, regardless of what
Townsend says.

Back in my late teens I was in a few bands. I have zero talent or ability, but certainly liked the lifestyle...
But I digress.
My band mates and I were friends. Not necessarily close friends, but friends. We had fights, arguments and disagreements. But we frequently lived together, knew each other, and as best as we could, we respected each other. I find it amazing that these guys, and many others, were in bands but hated each other. It was just a business to them, after a while. It’s a hackneyed cliche, but:
It’s about the music, man!
We were dedicated to making music. Perhaps because we never really made any, it was never about the money.
I just finished reading the book by KK Downing, founding guitarist of Judas Priest.
He and fellow guitarist Glenn Tipton never got along, and it turns out he knew little or nothing about singer Rob Halford, and never, ever, even had a friendly conversation with him. These are guys that were in a hugely famous band that traveled together for decades.
Never even had a conversation with him. Rob would arrive, do his part, then leave.
Wow.

All I heard reading that article was, "I'm Pete Townsend, the god of music and everything cool. When I play, people better listen because it may be their last chance to hear perfection."

What a self-absorbed arse.

There's a few big name bands that turn me off - make me tune in another station when their songs play....
among them are - The Who and U2.

Within my genre of music there’s a few that I can only take in small, very small doses.
AC/DC are the voice of my generation, but they exhaust me.
Rush. Love them, saw them live for the amazing 2112 tour. But their music is so intense and complex that I can only listen to one song at a time.

This seems an appropriate thread with Christmas approaching.
(Tommy, a Christmas album?)
Coincidentally I just sat down to supper and put on the Who's Greatest Hits.
(True).
Obviously most band did have conflicts, that's why they broke up over time.
I was watching a drummer video of different drumming styles and the expert said Moon would have sounded terrible with a any other band but great with The Who.
His opinion, of course.

I prefer the Who to the Stones.
My opinion, of course.
Just totally different psychologies of the songs.
"Who's Next. The album too good for class rock radio to kill".
We won't get fooled again.
