Does anyone know what the 1969 N97 build sheet code entailed? Mandatory equipment or standard deletion of parts etc?? I have a 1969 Charger that was a California car originally and am wondering what options/ equipment that code included. TIA

I do not know for sure, but I suspect.... a silenced air cleaner, not the open element, and probably a hood pad. I do know they got turn-down tailpipes with no chrome tips.
Incompatible with n96 air grabber. (Nevermind this comment. Forgot you are dealing with a charger)
Quoting Wes Eisenshencks book...." The 383 road runners destined for the golden State received a dual snorkel air cleaner in ordinance (sic) with California state law on noise pollution. These cars also had more restrictive, quieter mufflers and a turned down rear exhaust without the customary tips."

Silenced Air Cleaner and Emissions Pod (green one that is on all Hemis).

This is where I saw it

N97 option code

« on: April 02, 2012, 06:48:52 AM »
I remember reading on the old forum that this option named "noise reduction package" or "tips down exhaust" was mandatory to have on CA cars back in the seventies, but the earlier built dates didn´t have the option on the fender tag nor the broadcast sheet.
Since the lady i bought my car from showed me a picture from a few month after the car was sold to her uncle in 1970 that showed the tips down thing i know the car came with it.

Was it just a dealer addition made to the car and did only 440-6´s and Hemis come with that option on the tag or could it really be factory on the cars with N95 and beeing an early built date?

I own a "N97" Code California Sale Only.... as denoted on it's Broadcast/Build Sheet "N97" being "Noise Reduction Pkg" 1969 Charger R/T SE.
It is a survivor... Un-Restored, UN-rebuilt, all original and UN-Molested or changed since new.
It is equipped with Body Undercoating, Turned down Exhaust Pipes at the rear Bumper(no chrome tips), Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner, Longer "Resonators" instead of Mufflers, and a whole host of Cab Body Panel backed Insulation Pads with Chrysler Pentastar Part #'s on the Firewall etc., etc.
Hope this helps....
But it appears Mopar was very serious about compliance with "Noise Reduction ?
as this is the quietest Mopar I've ever ridden in.... and I ridden in LOTS !

Do you have the broadcast sheet for your car?

I did exactly what you did, photocopy it, and put the original away in a safe place.
Was the grease pencil marking in red or black?

Yes the original lives in my fire safe! It is a black ... Just like the rest of the car..lol
