72 Charger Steering Column Wiring

Wasn’t sure if this should go in the interior section or the electrical section. Since I already have a similar post there, I figured I’d throw this here.

I am looking at tracing the wires that run up the steering column. I’m tempted to just start pulling bolts, but figured I’d post here first. If I remove the bolts in the attached pic and the two on the other side, will it give me access to the wiring? My 1972 Charger SE shorted out the ignition wires and melted a bunch in the dash. I have repaired/replaced the dash wires. I want to inspect the wires in the column so I know they are good before I put it back together.

I took the bolts out and nothing fell apart. It also releases the lower channel where the wires run so I could inspect them pretty much all the way to the loom.

I have a new harness assembly if you need one.

I fixed up the one that was in there and put her back together tonight. Going to button it up, connect the wires and see what happens tomorrow(I hope).
If I have issues, I may hit you up. Do you have the dash wiring or column wiring harness?

Both. I purchased new items for my restoration. My old components are still usable.

Gotcha. I’ll let you know. I got busy with life stuff and haven’t been near the car for a while. I’ll be back next week and will re-evaluate what I need.
