I can't believe it!

So what is the fail-safe remedy to make sure hoods don't fly off? Is there a way to tell if the hood latches are not set properly or did these fail due to weakened latch springs?

Our hood is set so you have push down on the primary latch to get it to release. Once that releases, I think it might come up about 3/4” and stops because the second latch catches. Can’t check right now, because the car is not back together.

How could you say your restoring a car & don't even know about the safety hood latch, really you almost deserve that & I hate to see that happen to anyone but come on.

Not everyone is knowledgeable as some.
What does I am restoring a car mean? I sent out a bunch of work, doing it myself or a combination thereof?

didn't someone earlier in the thread say that they also had a hood come loose even with both latches in place? Should we be worried if we have both latches? Anything to check for latch health? I mean, if I have both latches and they are engaged, should be fine, correct? Mine could likely use some fine tuning adjustment.

I guess all you can do is make sure the main latch is latching correctly. With the hood open you can manually snap it shut with a screwdriver or similar tool and the attempt to pop it open. A couple of drops of lube might help. The hood needs to latch snugly when closing but you shouldnt need to SLAM it! The secondary latch needs to move freely , a couple drops of lube might help and it needs to catch fully in the hole above the grille. Use some door ease on the latched where the contact the hood and hood latch bar....

Not exactly but I do know just about every car has had hood safety latches since at least the 50s & would recognize that mine was missing.

Well then, everyone's very proud of you....

Well, I got an estimate to fix the current hood, $6000 and he couldn't guarantee it wouldn't bend again because of the crease on the right side. There are no hoods anywhere, AMD is out and they don't expect an answer as to when they are getting some for 3-6 months. I found 3 hood on ebay, two were trashed and one was in good shape so I talked the guy down to $1100 + 275 shipping. The body guy said this would be the cheaper way to go and it would probably fit better than a new hood. I searched the internet for a one and there are NONE out there, all the people order from AMD.

If its a Genuine RR hood it will fit better than the AMD ones. Now you need to pray that it doesn't get destroyed in shipping!!!!,,,LK
