Orange box breaking up?

The one I have did work and certainly may be reliable but beware....it made my tachometer needle bounce a lot. I tried soldering in a diode but it didn't help. I have an aftermarket Dakota Digital instrument cluster with all digital components. Maybe a different tachometer would be okay with the FBO setup? I could try the FBO box in my other car and report back. Jigsaw has a stock type setup.

Yeah that is weird...and I don't think you're the only one to experience it. The one I have works okay but my tach is an Autometer.
 
Kern what coil where you running with that FBO Box

Beanhead sent me the FBO box and the matching "Flamethrower" coil.

I didn't check it for Ohms, I read before that these were matched components. I have that coil in my 75 Power Wagon now. It runs fine but what if it isn't compatible in the truck? Will it burn out the ECM ?
 
No

I have just seen certain coils , especially low ohm coils with Mopar ignition modules cause erratic behavior with our tachs

Get rid of the orange box they tend to fail all the time. Buy yourself a FBO box and eliminate the ballast resister. The FBO box also has a built in rev limiter. I put one in my 68 Coronet R/T and have never looked back. Great setup you will be very happy you did.

Where do you buy the fbo box
 
Just get the HBO stuff,4seconds flat.com.Call them,Dana will answer the phone or call you back. Stop worrying about the chinese crap that looks like the old stuff,those days are gone. If you want to make the effort,get a crap box and wire in a GM HEI module,Pertronix makes them with and without rev limiters. I've been running a 40 year ol Gm module on my 65 for 2 years,the 383 goes in next month,i have a HBO modue for it.All USA,guess where the Pertronix are built,look at HBOs warranty. I've used a few in the last 16 years.

I have an aftermarket instrument panel that is all digital/electronic so something was incompatible between the two. This might work fine with a stock tach or maybe another style like Stewart Warner, VDO, Auto Meter, etc.

Out of curiosity, about the diodes you refer to, where did you place them in the circuit? What type of fiodes fid you use (diode part #)? How were the diodes connected: series or parallel or in a network configuration or to a ground source or a 12v supply source. What was the "plan" to use diodes in the first place? Sounds like a "my buddies said" theory. Please explain......perhaps a sketch of how you connected them.....
