how to store motor

hello gang
Any sugesstions on how to store running six pack motor for some time without pulling carbs?
Motor is fresh build only cam broke in

assume you have non ethanol premium in your area so that's not an issue...perhaps one of those fogging oils poured down the carb like people use to winterize boats?
 
The best way is to essentially flood it a bit with a mixture of 2 cycle oil and gas while it's running.
If it's already shut down then a 2 second spray of fogging oil in each cylinder.
Cap off carb and exhaust openings.
 
Store in a low humidity environment if possible. I like to fill the carbs up with a light oil....one that won't harm gaskets and o-rings. Transmission fluid ain't a bad one to use imo. How long do you plan on storing it? Also bag it with a good heavy plastic bag and double bag it if it's going to be in a somewhat of a high foot traffic area. I have a fresh 440 stored and buddy likes to rub all other the dang thing lol
 
Loosen all the rocker arms, let the valves close. This will also keep your springs fresh.
 
I always stored mine after a basic storage prep in very large plastic bags with tons of desiccant to help reduce any moisture. Always worked after a long time not used...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

Desiccant wouldn't work for very long in my parts lol. I have a dehumidifier in my 'clean' room (which isn't all that clean anymore) and man, I have to empty the bucket just after a few hours or so!
 
The clarification not asked yet is: For how long will it be stored? A couple months, just wrap in plastic and keep dry. Longer - then add closing the valves & oiling the cylinders. Longer yet, then add removing the carbs and draining them, rotating the crank periodically, etc.

we all hang on to things / building a 540 hemi also have the fresh 440 6 pack want to put one or the other in my 69 rr cant really say how long will store 6 pack. understand oiling cylinders just dont want to pull the three carbs . got a question when i pull the fuel line from gas can and let motor srarve down do the inboard and the outboard carbs run down the bowls
 
Get it running to use up the fuel and spray it down with fogging oil as it's dying out through the center carb. Yes the outboards will use up fuel through the idle circuits.
When you see smoke out the pipes you know you're good
 
The motor used in my truck
was stored on an engine
stand for 23 years before
we brought out of
hibernation.
It would be to your benifit
to remove the carbs and
manifolds and store them
seperately, depending on
the length of time not
being used.
Boat engines are fogged
prior to storage due to high
humidity environments.
Stored in your garage,
you'renot going to see
those humidity levels.
With the oil pan empty:
Remove the spark plugs
and squirt in 2 tablespoons
of non-detergent 30 wght
oil in each cylinder. Rotate
the engine a few times.
Reinstall the plugs.
Rotate the engine to upright.
Wrap the engine with pallet
wrap with 2-3 layers, then
envelope the engine with
a couple of heavy duty
50 gal trash bags. hook
your shop vac up to suction
and draw out of the trash
bags as much air as you
can. Tie the ends of the
bags shut, and you're good
to go.
When we unwrapped the
440 that was stored for
23 years, we bore scoped
the cylinders.
They were as clean as the
day when we picked it up
from the machine shop.
and now since it's running,
zero issues.
The trash bags around
the outside act as a type
of insulation, guarding
against swings in humidity
and condensation.

I fog mine by dumping a little ATF down the carbs before I shut them down. Makes a lot of smoke but never had a problem yet.

Oil (at least around here)
tends to attract dirt and
dust. My carb was stored
in the box it was shipped
in, wrapped in a couple
trash bags.
