Alan's 1970 Charger Restoration

Picked up a set of "magnum" rims off FB for $200 this morning. They're not perfect, but I'm putting wheel covers on them anyway. It gives me options later if I decide to move away from the wheel covers :)

Also Instrument-Specialties notified me that assembly is about to start and they'll be sending back my dash, steering column, etc in early June. They've been great with updates and running about 2-3 months earlier than expected.

Spin your wheels, or get them spun on a balancer, before you mount the tires on. Something I learned the hard way recently. Sent 4 out for coating, got new tires put on, one was bent. Had to get the extra checked, coated, mounted. No one so far in my area straightens steel wheels. Maybe there is a shop in your area in case you have one or more duds. Many reproduction tires are not round and will really give you problems when mounted to bent wheels.

Used KBS coating and grilled up the exhaust headers. Painted & assembled the K-Frame Dolly.

Hit them with SEM clear coat Satin. I'm much happier with the sheen / finish.

A little progress on the front end and the K-Frame back all powder coated and ready for the dolly.

Metal work is getting close to complete. Then the bodywork will begin.

A few pictures of the completed dash from Thomas @ Instrument-Specialties. I think it came out great.

Assembling the front suspension. I did NOT torque down pivot nuts on LCAs nor the front of strut rods.

I have to reassemble brake backing plates and get the gearbox on next.

Visited family last week during the 4th and grabbed a few parts off the "parts" 70 Charger at my Dad's house. It's been sitting in a field since the 80s and is worse shape than my brother's that I'm restoring.

* 2 horns (will restore them as I'm missing 1).
* Short headliner bows with clips (1 of my clips are broken)
* Quarterpanel extensions (eyebrows) - extra
* Tail lights - extra
* Middle section of the grille - I need a single vane

Then I hit the 2nd floor of my Dad's barn looking for more stuff that my brother hoarded. I came away with the below parts - will clean them up and add to marketplace with the "extra" stuff above.

* Wiper motor
* Motor.mounts
*Transmission bracket
* 3 power steering pumps
* 2 starters
* 8 alternators (why he had eight I'll never know)
* Air cleaner body (no lid)
* 741 chunk

That's all I had room for. The parts car has a power steering gear box and possibly a dana rear end. There's there's another complete axle (489 case)that I believe is from a 72/73 charger (based on hub 2 hub dimensions).
