Looking for an experienced shop or someone that can run/ break in my 440 on a stand. I'm in central CT but can travel if necessary. Thank you!

Webpage says engine dynamometer.

I'm getting the impression that you're not looking for dyno time, just break in time?

Ron.

Thank you, yes that is what I'm looking for. I've talked to them (Bill) at Auto Service in Old Saybrook a few weeks ago and he is a very knowledgable Mopar guy. I'm not sure what's going on now because my calls go unanswered. Maybe they're too busy, or something else? Too bad because it seemed very promising at first.

I use Larrys Auto Machine, I have my 340 down there now. This will be the third engine he has built for me, all assembled and broke in/dyno on his machine, no complaints except its taking a little longer than promised.

It’s going to be hard to find someone willing to take risk on an engine someone else built.

Are you just wanting to check for leaks/set timing or are you trying to seat the rings? By itself, a run stand will not set the rings properly since there needs to be a load to accomplish that properly.

The blurb below is from Mahle, the piston and ring manufacturer. It's directly from their "Engine Break In Recommended Procedures" literature;

..."A note concerning engine run stands: They should only be used to ensure no leaks, adjust timing and fuel or break-in flat tappet camshafts. An unloaded run stand WILL NOT properly seat the rings."...

People will argue this and say "I have been running my rebuilt engines on the floor for 300 years, never had a problem." If you want to do half-assed crap like that it's OK by me. I'm not one to spend someone else's money either but if it were me, I'd spend a bit more to do the job properly. Presumably you've invested some time and money into this engine, why risk glazing the cylinder walls and having to re-do the whole thing again? Looking at it that way, a dyno session is "relatively" cheap insurance.

Where in "Central CT" are you? There's several places that should be an easy drive for you. Scinto has a dyno at his house in Oxford, (I've used them for a 383 stroker) as mentioned there's Larry's in Groton, Extreme in North Haven, Danbury Competition Engines and I'm sure a few others. Bill Atwood in Old Saybrook is a good guy. He may have been racing so try again.

No, definitely Auto service of Old saybrook.... Are you calling the shop number and speaking to someone? Bill and Billy!!! Super knowledgeable Mopar guys with engines. I stand behind them 100% from another fbbo member

Pretty sure that they are members of FABO and possibly here but don't post very often.

I did speak to Bill senior in person about a month or so ago. I agree he was extremely knowledgable and gave me some great advice. I felt really confident when i left that they were the best choice. At that time he said he was backed up a few weeks and that was perfectly fine since I wasn’t ready.
In the past couple of weeks I called twice and spoke to his son who took my # but no call back. I don’t want to call more times as I’m sure they’re busy.

Bill called me this morning and as expected he is busy but he will be running my engine soon. Thanks to all that responded.

You will not be disappointed. Bill and his son go above and beyond to make sure the job gets done right!
