I've driven in the UK and Ireland several times with a stick. If it’s a stick, what’s it like shifting with your left hand?
It's not too bad. The pattern is the same so first is away from your body and up (and so on). The foot pedals are the same too. I've found the one of the hardest things to break is if you suddenly have to back up. I automatically (pun intended) look over my right shoulder but I need to look over my left in the UK. Also, besides the obvious of keeping left, the other thing that is subtle is where you sight down a lane. With a car in the US, we naturally sight down the left hand third of any lane our car is in, and this helps keep it centered in the lane. In the UK, you have to look down the right hand third of the lane, otherwise your car drifts too far to the left and takes out curbs and such!
