Hi all,

Wanted to make a post to share my 71 Roadrunner project! I met a few guys from this site at Carlisle (Hey Hawk!), and decided to post my project here. I'm 25 and this is one of my Roadrunners.

I picked it up in West Virginia last summer, it hadn't been on the road for a long time. It was abandoned and bought a few years ago for $300 and Hemmings wrote an article on it (I'll see if I can find it). It's been through 3 or 4 owners since and it landed here with me in Delaware (I didn't get it for 300).

The car:
• Factory 383 auto but was changed to a 440 truck engine at some point
• Factory GK6 Autumn Bronze, black vinyl top, no stripe (repainted blue)
• Factory buckets and console, optioned for a dash clock
• 4 wheel manual drum brakes

What I've done so far:
• Replaced almost every piece of wiring because it burnt up
• Rebuilt the gauge cluster and put a better dash pad on
• Put the back window back in
• Replaced the grille
• New intake, carb, and some engine dressup
• New slot mags and tires
• Rebuilt the brakes (Lines, cylinders, master cylinder)
• New radiator
• Probably a lot of other little things too

It fell short of making it to Chrysler Nationals because of a leak in the transmission that we discovered too late (the day before lol). Hoping it will be on the road shortly, and I can make some progress on the body work!

These first pictures here are when I brought it home

Upgrading the radiator, replaced the grille and headlights with good used ones, engine dressup and intake, and showing off the rake with the slots

Good looking project and glad to see Young Guns still by old school muscle

Glad to see another back on the road ! Keep it up and thanks for sharing.

Nice project 71 RR. Keep us updated as you make progress.

Great find and project. I think the first thing I learned when I got into Mopars back in the mid 1970's was that I needed to understand the electrical system. I am convinced that Mopar hired the bottom 5% of electrical engineers, sure it all works (until it doesn't) but how they ran wires, connected some systems, etc. seem suspect at best.

the 71-72 cars aren’t really that collectible yet so have fun with it! A few of the Mopars in my collection are really valuable to the mecum crowd that see cars as investments and changing or altering them scares some people to death. Me….not so much but you sir have carte blanche to hot rod it up! Anyone know if they are still making the super bird kits for 71-72’s?

Not collectable what? 1971 Hemi GTX not collectable I beg to differ and for that matter I think all 71-74 b bodies have left their mark

The Professor, how about sharing some pics? Love to see them and share them with the fellow Mopar community but understand if you don’t want to share
