Anyone into or have friends who dig Oldsmobiles? There is an auction company not far from me selling Joe Mondello's inventory. Lots of great stuff to be had.

My buddy has a '67 442. He has a 455 in it with a 4 speed but has the original 400 as well. Color is that pale yellow. It had yellow interior but he changed it to black years ago. Pretty cool car.
 
Absolutely. Buddy had a silver W-30 442 back in the day, another buddy has a Hurst Olds. I personally like Olds, and Pontiac, of all the GM marques.

In the past I've had quite a few buddies with 442's.... And yeah, Joe was Doc Olds' right hand man...

These days it seems every 442 or Cutlass has gone the way of the Donk....

Love old A body Olds! [plus a few others] Anything from Mondello is gold imnsho.

My dad had a 72 metallic orange 442 with white stripes and interior. 400 his and hers automatic if I remember correctly. It was stolen from his job in a rough area of South Providence Rhode Island. It was never seen again. If that had not happened and my parents divorcing, I might be an Oldsmobile guy instead of a Mopar guy.
 
My first car (that i still have) was a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and maybe someday i get myself a 1971-1972 442 30 or a 1968 442 W30 aswell. :thumbsup:
 
I had a few, a couple 442s,
& my Granddad was an Olds & Buick man

my 71 I had in Alaska 10.90 w-30 455/TH car,
had highly ported Mondello heads on it, big valves/iron heads
circa 1984-ish
they weren't cheap but he was the man back then, especially with Olds
he didn't just do Olds either
&
I had 2 SBC Donovan's, he did heads for both 2nd was a 321cid 11k+ RPM 71 Camaro S/C 8.90 car
it was a fast car for an almost all steel car, most of the stock glass, glass hood & decklid
both ran great with his heads

he also did a set of
1st was Donovan peanut angle plug SBC 225 heads for my
1st 23T Altered blown/inj. AA-Gas 301cid too, got into the 7s, S/E 7.90s on methanol
when I turned 18, 1977

he was considered part of the Long Beach Gang, great guy, entertaining guy
(Keith Black, Joe/Albert Pisano, Ed Pink, Paul Pfaff, Joe Mondello, Mert Littlefield, Al Bush, Dyer, Hilborn etc. etc. etc.)

My younger Brother owned a twin to this 70 W30 in the mid-late 70s. I drove it once or twice and it blew me away as to how good a car it was. I about cried when I heard he sold it for money to finish school without letting me have a shot at it first.

Growing up in suburban Chicago...Evanston, Illinois...I was close friends with the owner's son from Norman Olds. So, I had just about every model of muscle that the dealership had to offer to drive, so hell yes!!! Still consider Olds to be up there with the Poncho, and Brick GS models...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:
 
My friend has a 1968 W-30 Oldsmobile 442 that his Dad bought new. He had it lettered up and he raced it back in the day. His Dad is now in a nursing home, and it has been passed down to the son. About 25,000 original miles on it. We are trying to talk him into taking it to MCACN: it's that nice. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of it. The son also got his Dad's 1965 TriPower GTO.
This is the same guy that just recently bought a 1965 AWB Coronet clone. He also has a '71 or '72 Camero with about 1,000 h.p. BBC in it.

I'm not in the market for Olds stuff, but

man some of them intake manifolds possibly or probably have been ported
could be some serious value there, old stuff
but if he ported them they'd work great, I'd just about guarantee it

a few of the blocks look like might have some value too,
hard to tell in the photos, which are which,
been a long time ago I messed with Olds (late 70's to mid late 80s)

a full short block, no idea of what

80's G body fiberglass cowl hood & decklid

a crapload of bulk pistons,
looks like some new stuff/pistons in there too
bring some Miches/calipers & do some measuring
comp. height pin diam. ring size bore size etc.
bet there's a few sets useable stuff in that pile
no bid, the alum alone is worth something

& a bunch of valve covers, some with breathers them breathers have value
& oil pans, kick out pans, it/they look like alum. or chromed
for what I'm not sure, if he kept them they probably are good

the special 2 350 blocks (1 is for a rally 350 IIRC) not so much value,
but to a guy who needed one, get a good deal
I wonder if them blocks had his oiling mods done to them
if it did/does, that's some trick stuff, for an Olds afficianodo, priceless
they were prone to spin bearings if not given the oiling mods
& a lil grinding, beveling & drilling out or tapping here & there
might be wort a look & measuring, could be a gold mine

I didn't see any cranks either
looked in both the auctions photos

most of that stuff had no bids yet

If I was closer I'd come & see it in person

I didn't see any flow-bench or cylinder heads or his grinding/porting tools
& templates at all
or head stands
or valve grinding or cutting machine
or his Bridgeport & lathe
(maybe the family picked thru it already)
if it was Joe's stuff, would have been old (analog), but top of the line stuff

there's cool stuff for someone, lots of warehouse shelve, office type stuff
 
At the speed shop I worked at, we sold quite a few of the oil restrictors. Many jet boats had 455's in them and owners would learn the hardway about restricting oil to the top end. As you've seen, along with the obvious engine stuff, there are body components too. I remember when the 350 diesel blocks were a hot ticket for race engines. Combine those with Batten heads and watch out. I think this is the second go around for the auction. Still some awesome stuff to be had.
 
I had a '71 Viking Blue 442 and also a '68 1 owner black 442, both when I lived in Santa-Friggin-Maria back in the 90s.
Talk about quiet comfort! Even better was the '66 Toronado I had (factory black also). I dang near fell asleep driving it to Pomona!

But..... MoPar DNA in me. I missed the rattles and the feel of our cars.
