Craigslist

Another thing have noticed is, with Craigslist you eventually have to make phone contact with your trading partner. This seems to generate spam/scam phone calls. I believe it has to do with getting on people’s contact lists which are not secure.

With facebook marketplace you can communicate through messenger and keep your phone number to yourself

I never use the separate FB messenger app. I use the default in the FB app.

No, no you don't.

I've done many, many transactions without any phone contact.

If you do make contact, outside CL, on the phone, that person now has your personal phone number...for ever.

That brings up one more type of person you meet on CL-

The person that doesn't understand how modern communication works.

They don't understand that secure email benefits both parties.
They don't understand that email or text allows both parties to have a record of the information.
They don't understand that email (or to a lesser extent, text) allows both parties to communicate at a time that is convenient to them.
They assume that any comm that is not a phone call will be "20 questions" and BS.
They don't understand that in order to determine if I really want their item, I might need answers to "20 questions"....and all that info is better if it is documented in an email or a text, so I don't have to keep asking those same 20 questions.

Yep, most people won’t use email. I would say than half of the ads I respond to via email answer me at all.

I'd say 70% will on stuff I respond to.

I just figure the 30% that won't ain't worth dealing with because of the "types of people" rules, and shrug it off to the margin of "doing business" in that forum.

...and that brings up another type-

The type that doesn't understand the difference between:

"do you still have the item?"

and

"I see your car is a 66 with a 67 front clip, do you still have any of the 66 parts, by any chance?"

If they can't tell which is a scam.......

I listed MP Performance valve covers and a 6 quart oil Pan on FB Marketplace yesterday afternoon. I just sold them today. We used the apps' built in message system and met at a safe, public space.
