Hi all,

I'm in Australia and my 68 Charger is converted to right hand drive. It was a shell with a bunch of parts when I got it. I have no ashtray in the dash. The conversion was done well but not completed. I expect that if I find an original ashtray it should fit because the center of the dash is as original, and so too are the sides, although they have been swapped. But it got me thinking. These ashtrays are rare. And expensive. Plus, I don't smoke. And even if I did, I wouldn't smoke in this car. I wondered if anyone out there has come up with interesting ways to utilize this dash space. It could be a useful storage space or even a spot for a backup camera screen. I though about infotainment but decided that I couldn't do that to this beautiful car. It needs an original radio (perhaps with Bluetooth) in it. Anyway, ideas would be very gratefully received please folks. Thanks in advance!

I read somewhere that some modify the ashtray to utilize a pull out cupholder. I forgot how they modified it though.

I welded the ashtray skin into the dash and finished to match dash.

I like the cup holder ideas. I use the stock cig lighter to power a BT adapter but it’s unsightly, relocating it and just having a slide out cup holder in its place would be cool.

Before I replaced the instrument panel, I used the ash tray area to mount a couple of gauges using a plastic plate I made to fit the opening.

This is bloody brilliant! Thank you guys!! I like the cup holder idea because the center console will be a bit hard to put cups in as I'll be sitting on the right side of that so the lid would be in my way, to a degree. Plus, one of the spare parts in the trunk was an armrest console and I haven't decided if I will use it or go the more classic look. Gauges are a bloody good idea too. I had wondered about deleting it but I'm trying hard to keep a degree of classic 68/69 era factory look to it and so I thought the fake ashtray repurposed might be the way to go. Wow! That is super nice work though!!. Thanks folks, I'm now charged up with some great ideas thanks to your contributions.
