Took my 73 roadrunner for a drive today and noticed my speedo was stuck at 20, it moves up and down but won't come back down below 20, seems to be 20 mph off also, I took the speedo cable loose off tranny and spun cable and no binding and spins free just still stuck at 20, has to be internal in the speedo, first time I have ever ran I to this

If U pulled out the cable and still the needle is stuck..
Speedo needs to come out, likely needs overhaul and lube..

Just my $0.02...

Most likely the nylon bushing what keeps centered the needle shaft got broken. This bushing also keeps in place the needle return helicoidal spring adjuster… soooo if got broken the needle won’t return (and the speedo won’t read correctly).

BTDT (Already have fixed two speedos with the same)

Question… when riding around still reads accurately or just moves like working normally but out of range?

Yep still moves but 20 mph faster then what im going now

Well that’s it… there is no preload being applied over the needle shaft… spring is loose althought still somehow keeping some tension. Broken bushing (total or partially)

It should in fact read even more than 20 miles over the real speed while going faster.

Check the thread I posted. Tricky fix but doable.

Whichever is the fix, there is no other way than remove it first.

Note that for my legacy Mopar cars and their guage restoration, I use exclusively RedLineGuageWorks.com in Newhall, CA.
RedLine does all the electrical guage works for Leno, Pure Vision, often found in their award winning SEMA, magazine show cars.
Note that Shannon runs RedLine, and his uncle was the original motor court manager for Dukes of Hazards as they did alot of filming
locally in Newhall at the Warner Bros Ranch. A couple things that Shannon does is he rebuilds/lubes the guage internal workings,
rescreens the dial front while most restoration guys just sticks on a vinyl decal, and then recalibrates it.

Just my $0.02...
