Fuel tank vent

Why would fuel be coming out of the vent, see arrow in picture? Non-vented cap, stock fuel tank, tank was about 3/4 full.
Dripped for a few minutes after I got home and then stopped.

Is the vent tube that goes up into the trunk and ends in the boxed frame in place?
 
pressure build up in the tank, usually when the gas tank is nearly full or full on very hot days after driving the car, this happens sometimes. When I get home on very hots days, I just take the gas cap off to release the pressure when I park the car. That solves the problem.
 
Sounds like the tank has some pressure in it and it's coming out of that line.
I see that moes beat me to it.....

That's not what he asked. Question was DO you have the other vent in place?

That said, tank fairly full, quick braking and / or a good bump/lip coming into the garage can throw the gas up thru the shock mount vent.
 
If it is a repop tank some of the vent tubes in the tank got reversed. There is a short and a long one and a simple way to test it is to reverse the external vents and see if it still leaks.

Yes both vents are in place and connected properly.

The vent tubes in my 69 RR tank are reversed as described by 69Hemibeep. I had venting/leaking issues because the vents were plumbed in the stock manner. I looked in the tank and saw that the vents were backwards so I reversed the external vent hoses and it works perfectly.

I highly recommend verifying your vent tube orientation. You shouldn’t have to remove the gas cap to vent the tank. That is absurd.
