Anybody know this 70 Coronet R/T that got wrecked?

I've had throttles stick open and have never wrecked one car as a result of it.

I had an occasional problem where it would stick at WOT, this was back when I had an automatic. Repeatedly stabbing the throttle would UNstick it. I found out later it was linkage from the choke that I had left behind when I removed most of it.
The whole "stuck throttle" excuse has been used many times as a defense for situations gone wrong.
I would be borderline homicidal if this happened to my car. Yeah, cars can be replaced but the outright disrespect and lies from the shop staff would send me into a rage.
 
Guys panic and forget that there's an ignition key or put trans in neutral. Better to blow an engine than kill someone or wreck the car.
 
This is why you don't let other people work on your ****. Hopefully the car was well insured
 
I had the throttle jam open on my Charger back in the late 80's..... but it was because I had floored the gas pedal and the kick-down lever wedged up in the carb throttle linkage. I had enough road and the presence of mind to kill the ignition, and pop it into neutral before leaning on the brake pedal. I coasted for a bit, but didn't ram the car into the rhubarb. Needless to say, I made some adjustments after that to the kick-down arm.

I agree with a few comments above that the guy driving into the trees is either an idiot or a big fat liar.

Sad and I also had my 6 pack stuck wide open coming from N Carolina, threw it in neutral and killed it. Coasted to the next exit and turned out the return spring broke. I dont know what I would do if a shop called me and said we totaled your car.

shop was driving it, shop is going to pay for it, insurance or not. unfortunately for all involved, there is a lawsuit coming.
 
I traveled to White Lake Michigan to visit Family and saw alot of classics driving around. Sister-in-law said
there was a huge car show there over the weekend. I couldn't get away to see it but we were close. Heard
the cars coming and going on Friday and Saturday. Me thinks that car was part of that humungus show???

Throttle stuck huh. I’m I used this one on my parents trying to explain a speeding ticket.
 
When I was 19 I wrecked a 70 Charger R/T due to a stuck throttle... Young, dumb, inexperienced... I was screwing around with a buddy who's car had broken down that I'd gone & rescued... Probably running close to 100mph, the WOT had apparently broken the motor mount , engine torqued up & pulled the throttle cable out of the firewall... Not stuck wide open, stuck at about 30% but with four wheel drum brakes the car already didn't stop well especially above 70 mph & since it wasn't wide open I didn't realize it was stuck, it wasn't accelerating wildly, it just wasn't slowing down at all.... Being four wheel drums it had never stopped well so at first it seemed normal but it wasn't And the toll plaza at the bottom of the Coronado Toll Bridge was coming up really fast....... I should have released the brakes and just blown through the toll plaza but I was standing on the pedal for all I was worth & in the last 75 feet the car locked up & went sideways... I managed to get it sort of straightened out & the front was unscathed.. Unfortunately the L rear tire hit the 12" high curb & the threw the R quarter panel into the last toll booth.... Looking back I had lots of options, but when it happened it happened quick & my inexperienced self choked...

Something don't have the right smell here. Sounds like the driver was either lying or stupid. I have only had the throttle stick wide open one time and I knew what to do instantly.
When I was in the Navy back in the 60's I had a 1960 Pontiac with a 389 and 4 speed. While messing around on Long Beach Blvd. one night, I had the throttle do that and I immediately shut off the ignition. I heard a thump and knew exactly what happened. I was only 19 and probably naive as hell but I didn't have to look under the hood to realize I had a broken motor mount. I can't imagine just hanging on for the ride of a lifetime without trying something.
Too bad such a nice car had to suffer those consequences.
 
Not a single member here has had any thoughts or sympathy for those innocent trees ...... always the innocent bystanders that get hurt. :)

Seriously, we've all done stupid sh*t with a car, anyone that says they haven't, well, better break out the pumps, cause it's getting too deep for shovels where you are.

Lets be thankful no one got killed, whether it was the shop owner/driver, a pedestrian or a car full of kids.
