Hi guys, chesk here. New to the forum.

I'm from Paraguay, and after 10 years of dreaming, I managed to import my '68 Charger. (There are no more than 3 or 4 '68-'70 Chargers here in Paraguay.)

For now, it's a project with a lot of rust that won't drive. It has a 318 engine and an automatic transmission.

I'm a good bodyworker and I'm going to make this car incredible. I've done several other non-MoPar projects, but this one is truly my dream. I also want to import a 6.1 Hemi engine and automatic transmission for it.

Nice. Welcome from the central coast of Cal. Good luck on your project and hope to see how it goes.

Welcome! Looks like a good solid car to start with- keep us posted on your progress

Solid body and cool wheels! Welcome. Heplful bunch of guys here who have been where you are going. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome from Wisconsin. Looks like a good project for you. I too installed a 6.1 in my 68 Charger. Back in 2014, no one was using the Nag 1 transmission but now there is plenty of help to make that happen. Biggest problem with that is you have to use the Nag 1 shifter which I didn't want. I had to use the truck 5 speed which is larger but not as reliable as the Nag. You have a small block transmission now that you could bolt up to the 6.1 if you want to stay with the 3 speed. Lots of help here on this site no matter which way you go. Good luck and keep us abreast of the progress.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the purchase.

Sadly, there are more '68 Chargers in Paraguay than in my garage.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Lots of great guys here.
I have other projects in progress here, but when it's the Charger's turn, I'll post the entire restoration process.
Well, since the import takes a while to arrive here, I already need to order an engine and transmission. A 6.1 Hemi seems like a good choice, but the NAG1 scares me for a standalone project. I always do everything on a tight budget, so I need to consider a lot of things. Maybe a manual transmission would be easier to make work. I really don't care if it's automatic or manual as long as it's a 6.1 Hemi; I just need it to be as simple and easy as possible.
I have a lot of experience with LS swaps, but this is my first Mopar. Opinions are welcome. What's the most practical thing to use in the 6.1 Hemi, as long as it's overdrive?

Cool project! I have more 68 to 70 Chargers in my garage than all of Paraguay! Lol welcome to the site!

I used the 5R45RFE 5 speed auto from a 2012 Ram 2wd. It is a stand alone transmission unlike the NAG1. I wanted the overdrive plus the first two gears are lower than 1st gear in the 727. It helps a bunch with low end grunt and works well with the 3.23 rear gear. My 6.1 turns 1700 rpms at 70 mph so it provides good fuel mileage along with great performance. It involves widening and raising the tunnel a couple inches each way so that is an issue. The speedo gear needs to be able to read pulses instead of a cable. I know others have used a GM 5 speed transmission and that is an option too. You may have other options but I wanted to stay all Mopar and wanted my car to look stock until you look under the hood. It has served me well for 10 years now.

Thanks for the reply.
Exactly what I need.
My friend, can you tell me more about how you did this? What PCM did you use? Wiring harness, etc.? The part about modifying the floor and crossmember doesn't bother me. My difficulty is the electrical part and how to connect the 5R45rfe to the 6.1?
