"The 383 was a bored out 361"?

I think they wanted to switch the 383 to the 4.32 bore of the 440. But that resulted in a 396. So they increased it to 4.34 making the 400.

I think the BB development theory stated earlier in the thread was correct-

400/451/470

...and "ball stud" Hemi in various displacements.

Back in the day, 1968/'69, I wanted to race my '59 Sport Suburban 361, L/SA! I had the 361 bored 60 over. By the calculations, Pi r squared x height x 8, it works out to 372. I still have the block, pistons, rings and the Cast Iron Torqueflite. Now that I've sold the Max, if I can find a suitable wagon, maybe I'll still do it!

Yep, from what I have found out with early CV8 Jensen engines.
361 is the same as the 383 block and bored plus 60!

The early Jensen cars were the fastest in Europe, capable of 150mph.
Plastic and wooden construction from the wars years almost!

I have rebored the 361 blocks myself on several occasions and they are the same in 1963/64.
There is one for sale on Ebay UK and it will get no buyers I bet...

The 361 and 383 engine is all but dead now as the 440 has taken charge!
Most folks I know are going 512ci with a 440 Source kit.
