I was told by a knowledgeable Mopar person that the 293 represents the 293rd Special Factory Ordered car for Special Paint . Current color of the car. Not sure if it's the original color or not.

In the interest of time, they were wrong and I'm sorry for that.
There's no shred of evidence to back up that assertion. There would be no reason to track and code that across all plants.
IF that were even remotely true, due to the number of 'cop cars', fleet cars and typical 999 paint code cars Mopar produced, the number of special paint cars would run into the thousands. We do not see that reflected on tags. It really strains the imagination to believe that this car with a May 19 scheduled date would be
only the 293rd special paint car for that year out of the hundreds of thousands of cars already produced.
It's simply the color used on that car as coded by Lynch Road. Other plants simply coded 999 for special paint colors and not the actual shade. IF it was something that was that important to track and codes across plants, we would see the tracking number used across all plants. We don't.
What we do see is individual plants, like Lynch Road, using alternate paint codes instead of, or in addition to 999 codes, on their tags. Lynch Road has a history of doing so by using codes like C37D (Petty Blue) C673 (?) C415 (a green), 148 (pink), 293, 324, etc.
It is a special paint car. But we do not know from the tag what color that actually was. It could have been a color that was only available on Imperials that year. It could be a color that matched the dealer's teen age daughters eyes. It could be a special corporate color requested by a fleet buyer. We simply don't know.
Beautiful car.
