New carburetor prices are high.

Oh ok, just a name I haven't heard in a long time. I remember back in the day when I was thirsty for a foxbody seeing him in some mags, then he made some passes at my local track. Shortly after that in a weird coincidence while talking to a coworker about where I spend my weekends he replies that his (brother I think) also does that, but for a living. Turns out that was Ben, who then visited him at work and we talked cars a little bit.
This was back in my 20s when I was a night guard making barely over minimum wage, but it gave me daytime to work on my car and weekends to spend at the race track. Sounds impressive until I mention the car only ran 15s at best, but fun times. I'll stop derailing this thread now :D

I would be thrilled to run 15s.,... i haven't been to the track in over 10 years.. i miss it soo much

Same, I went from having a track less than 30 mins away to nothing, now I would have to drive over 2 hours, some times way over, thru Silicon Valley traffic to get to a strip.

I have 3 within 90-120 mins... i just work 70 hours a week so.... no fun for me

Not wanting to turn this political but just asking this question
Are all these things you are seeing with bigger prices totally made in the USA or are the boarder controls you have in place finally trickling down to the consumer after everyone stocked up when they could but now that supply of parts are used up ??

Prices for a lot of parts doubled long before the current administration.

What does that statement have to do with anything????.....other than the obvious.....

If you have to ask then i guess you're too dense to understand. Are you bitter because i schooled you on stainless steel springs? I suggest you get over it.

You did not "schooled" me on stainless steel springs......as I wrote the book on stainless steel alloys and their ASME equilivants.......be specific in your definition .....you answer is far to vague to be of value........want to hold a "thinking" contest? I'm game......

Huh??? Be specific about my definition of what? My answer is vague? WTF are you talking about Bob? I was gonna say, don't make me embarass you again but you're doing a good job by yourself. I don't think you're up to having a "thinking" contest. Maybe you can give us some insight into high carburetor prices from an engineering standpoint. That ought to be a good read...

IIRC, my first pass was in the high 17's but had fun doing it. And it's been awhile for me going to a track to run something too.

I outlived two Houston area 1/4 mile tracks.....it sucks.....but there's an 1/8 mile track not to far but to me, 1/8 mile sucks.

When I worked days, I went to the Wednesday night test/tune and bracket race eliminations. The track opened at around 4 and that's when I got off. Always had a good time and usually went several rounds. Just winning the 1st round is an accomplishment lol. Did I mention 1/8 mile sucks?? lol

Post 53 from Cranky.
One quarter has been the traditional distance.
Maybe they should consider some rule changes to slow down the fastest. Other outfits do this. Nascar with pushrods and restrictor plates. MotoGP, bikes, are going to 800cc for the fastest class. They already restricted electronics so all run the same idiot box.
Some members here have cars that are faster than my 10 second bike. Bummer, but I ride mine on the street. My camper van might break 20 seconds.

It's just way easier to limit it to 1/8 mile. Many racers use the same car and set up they just don't have to rpm it on the top end to finish the quarter mile. Also, like at our drag strip, the timing equipment is already set up for both 1/4 and 1/8th.

My first pass was on an 1/8th, don't remember what I ran but I was in a 1981 Accord and they put me against some kind of rail, so I had a great view of a cool car, but it beat the hell out of me.
When they expanded to a quarter I found out the old Honda ran 19s. A couple of times that car almost won the brackets for the night, there was one guy everyone hated who sandbagged with a sportbike. I ran an almost perfect RT and right on my dial in so there was no sand bagging around that and he lost, threw a fit with his arms flailing and never entered the brackets again. People were literally cheering when I got back to the pits, made me love that slow Honda more.
I prefer a 1/4 but I would settle for a local 1/8th.
