I am going to start this thread by saying I’ll add ?s as they arise to this thread so feel free to chime in whenever I come upon another unknown connection. If you see my username I have been posting and asking a bit of help lately b/c I’m near( a)finish and several threads not just this have been started. Any case yes I purchased a wire schematic but still am having some trouble. I’ll post pics with part circled and a ?mark as well as what is next to the connection that I think I’ve identified. Appreciate your help.

Headlight dimmer switch! You guys are good. I just found it.

I am now trying to figure out my positive and and negative battery connections. I believe the negative cable that goes on the battery’s other end connects to the back of the engine head. My negative had an additional wire coming off the battery connection end that I’m not sure is necessary or where it goes. I picked up an additional 12or so inch negative cable that was planning on using from the other side of engine head to fire wall. Does that sound correct? And more or I guess just as importantly what about the other wire coming off the negative battery connection ground cable? Thanks

Photo 1 is the double wire ground to battery and back of head

2nd is the extra ground cable I bought to go from front of head to frame

Oh the third photo is also a mystery to me!

The mystery is...what you're working on!

That is a condenser (capacitor) in the 3rd picture.

318 engine. I think I’ve figured it out. The negative battery cable One end goes to engine head the other to the frame/firewall then to battery. I bought an extra ground cable because one of the ground ends was damaged bad so I was going to find a wire connector and splice them.

Don't know what you are working on. Year and model of car. You have to have a correct battery. Battery ground goes to front of the cylinder head, the small wire goes to a ground on the radiator header for front headlight harness. You can run a ground from the passenger side of the intake to the firewall. That condenser may go at the ignition coil for radio suppression.

As for a correct battery if I were to go to advanced auto or Walmart and specify my year make model would this suffice or something in the composition that I should be looking for?

The noise suppressor / capacitor mounts to the coil bracket bolt and connects to the coil (+) positive terminal.
The negative battery cable usually connects to the cylinder head for the large wire, and the smaller wire to the body.
There should also be a ground strap from the passenger side head to the firewall / body
