Hello,

I have been thinking about converting my end carburetor metering plates to metering blocks from Promax (for example). I am concerned about deleting the metering body plate (thin plate) between the main body and the metering plate/block. I was told that both this plate and the gasket that goes with it must be deleted in order to use the aftermarket metering block. This is necessary to avoid interference issues with the float.

My concern is, if Holley saw fit to use this thin plate and gasket, will there be any issues deleting them?

Thanks.

I’m running pro max plates in my outer carbs with the thin factory plate & gasket

You're putting a metering block in place of the metering plate on the end carbs ?

The thin plate and it's gasket need to be retained.
The reason Holley fitted it was to add support for the main bowl gasket where the body has the relief cast in to it for the power valve.
Clearance for the float is another issue. I don't know for sure but you may need notched floats.

One call to pro max will clear this up quickly.

I did call Promax and they told me there would be clearance issues with the floats if I retained the Holley plate/gasket.

What concerns me is, why did Holley see fit to include these two parts if they are not needed? No answer from Promax on this...

I've run into a fair amount of issues with aftermarket parts; the vendor will assure you that "it will work just fine with this modification" and then it doesn't.

Been stranded on the side of the road a time or two due to brand new aftermarket parts turning out bad/defective.

Why did Holley use metering plates with a fixed fuel metering orifice?

If the Holley parts ar so good why do you even want the pro max plates?

I use the promax adjustable plates on my outboards without the holley plate no issues. I also use his block for the center carb and his base plate for the rear outboard.

I had the same concerns about the steel plate and gasket. Not sure how #2 was able to use them. I remember trying to use them because I was concerned about the gasket, by itself, deforming and restricting the passages on the back side of the Promax plates. It did not work for me, what ever the conflict was, or they would be in there now. I have the recessed floats also, for relief of possible jet interference. You really don't need the steel plate and gasket.

Provided you get a seal between the metering plate and gasket you wouldn't need the support plate and gasket.
