Can't get this thing right. 69 Roadrunner that I replaced the 383 with a 440. Had problems on both motors. I have used the service manual are set to factory specs. I know it came with a AFB but thought that settings my be the same on the floats, jets etc.

Problems: when driving down the road it stumbles. Put in nuetral and clear out and it runs fine for about a mile and starts again.

Thoughts?

I did take the fuel lines off from the carb and turned the engine over and it really shot out big time. I actually have a race car too at 7.5 pounds, but the engine is a 632 I run in top sportsman.

This FALSE information about fuel pressure keeps recurring. The Carter/Edel carbs can withstand 10 psi of fuel pressure. The float level has to be adjusted for the fuel pressure.....on any carb.
My experience with these carbs [ a lot ] is that they are not very sensitive to pressure or f/level. What do you think is happening to the fuel level when the car is moving, cornering etc & fuel is sloshing around??

Float level on Edel is 7/16", different to Carter. So check the level.

Need a lot more info....

Setting to factory specs ?

What model Edelbrock are you using

69 Roadrunner 383 HP used a Carter AVS 630cfm

440 HP would have been a Carter AVS 750cfm

On your Edelbrock , could be a million things

Float levels , heavy floats

Jetting

Needles and Seats

And the Carter AVS factory specs versus the Edelbrock Model ? Are completely different

Then you have AVS versus AFB

Need a lot more information like mentioned

True, big differences between the Carter & Edel AVS carbs. Throttle bore sizes are difference; but the big difference is that Edel added venturiis to the secondaries, a major improvement in my opinion over the Carter AVS that used discharge tubes in the secs.
