Correct kick down lokar style cable adjustment question

Hello all. Figured I'd ask so many people who are smarter than I am with this. newly rebuilt 400 with the 727. Picked up the lokar style throttle and kick down cables. Throttle no prom at all kick down. I held the throttle wide open. Push the kink down lever far back as it could go and then locked everything down seem to work fine on Jack stands. Running it down the street say get up to 40 miles an hour and it still feels like it's in second gear let off the throttle and then you can instantly tell third gear came in Mark acceleration and it seems to stay in third gear. Slowing down seems to go back down the gears. I'm hoping it just needs an adjustment and it's nothing with the transmission but if I were to adjust, could I get some advice on that. Rebuilt transmission as well, but of course has never ran. Thanks much.
 
Just adjust it and drive it. Most require trial and error to get it right.
 
Any shift kit in the 727 ? I have a B&M in mine and it don't shift out of second till 40. You need to back off the kickdown off slightly and see how it is.
If I remember the Lokar has adjustment has a adjustment nut at the carb. Back it off a few turns giving some slack and drive it to see.
I believe you will be fine with a few tweeks.100% as pnora posted.
 
When I did my Lokar kickdown, the outer cable sheath was too long and limited how much I could adjust the kickdown.
I removed the inner cable and cut the outer sheath an inch shorter then re-installed the inner cable.
Not sure if that is your problem, it was just something I ran into along time ago.

Yeah, I guess there's a lot of travel in the lever on the transmission really didn't know how much to start travel but yeah, I'll start making some adjustments tomorrow. Thank you.

No shift kit, but will try to loosen it tomorrow and maybe start making a document by a couple of turns to see how much of a difference it made in it's shift points

There are two basic adjustment goals listed in the FSM for the OEM throttle pressure linkage setup.

1. At idle, the throttle pressure lever is all the forward, and at it's minimum setting.

2. At WOT, the throttle pressure lever is all the way back, as it's maximum setting.

If you've confirmed things are set this way, and at light (closed) throttle it still doesn't do its 2-3 upshift until 40, this may indicate something is amiss in your transmission.

In my experience with the B&M trans kit rebuilds (for example) we can make it shift fast and hard, but the shift points don't really change. Those are mostly governed by the throttle pressure.

Oh thank you don't remember seeing that my FSM but I'll take a look as well. Probably just blew by it. Yeah I'll definitely make an adjustment soon. I remember on my 318 engine and just normal street driving it would bring third gear in at about 32 miles an hour. thanks for the advice. Will report back to all progress
 
Mine has the shift kit with lokar. I backed mine off. Loosened it 1/16" to 1/8th inch to adjust transmission to shift earlier. Nice to adjust transmission from carb. I like it.
 
Thank you. Weather has been kind of rainy out here so haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping within a couple of days. Did you have the throttle wide open and then have a lokar trans cable lever pushed back as far as you could and then locking it down?
